Fetal biophysical profiles (FBP) have been obtained in 111 women with toxemia of pregnancy at 34-42 weeks. Six biophysical parameters were tested: nonstress test, fetal respirations, motility and tone, amniotic fluid volume and placental maturity. INTRODUCTION: For open fetal spina bifida (fSB) repair, a maternal laparotomy is required. Hence, enhanced maternal recovery after surgery (ERAS) is paramount. OBJECTIVE: We compared fetal behavior (FB) in high risk and normal pregnancies using four dimensional ultrasound (4DUS).
METHODS: For assessment of FB in high risk and normal pregnancies, we used a scoring system of Kurjak's antenatal neurological test (KANET). The newborns were assessed by a postnatal neurological test, Amiel-Tison neurological assessment at term (ATNAT). The scores of KANET in high risk (N=116) and in normal pregnancies (N=110) were compared. After delivery, the results of KANET from both groups were compared with ATNAT test.

A late preterm infant was born to a diabetic mother on a background of reduced fetal movements and a poor CTG. It was noted immediately at birth that there was pathology in both upper limbs. Targeted investigation led to the diagnosis of bilateral upper limb arterial thromboses. Prompt assessment and multidisciplinary discussion led to an individualised management plan resulting in a positive outcome.

We report a case of primary abdominal pregnancy observed at the maternity clinic in Befelatanana, Madagascar. A 36-year-old woman, gravida 2, para 2, with no medical history presented at 40 weeks and 2 days of amenorrhea for sudden disappearance of fetal movements.
