Homozygous Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbits are used widely to study atherosclerosis, but the WHHL heterozygous rabbit has received little attention. To study their potential as a model for atherosclerosis, heterozygous WHHL and New Zealand white (NZW) rabbits were fed diets containing 0%, 0.5% and 1.0% cholesterol. Plasma lipids were analyzed at 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 24 weeks, and animals were killed at 12 and 24 weeks. Necrobiotic xanthogranuloma (NXG) is a rare skin disease mimicking necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum clinically and histologically. However, its association with paraproteinemia, and the evolution of hematologic malignancies in some cases, established NXG as a separate clinicopathologic entity. A case of cat-scratch disease (CSD) in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is reported. The lymph node pathologic characteristics were altered from those usually seen with CSD, showing clusters of vacuolated macrophages admixed with pycnotic nuclear debris instead of the usual suppurative granulomas. Evidence for the diagnosis was provided by Warthin-Starry stain and electron microscopic demonstration of the presumed CSD bacillus. Empiric treatment with antibiotics brought about clinical improvement. This case demonstrates the altered lymph node pathologic characteristics

Autologous iliac crest bone is used to close the residual alveolar bone defect in cleft palate patients during late mixed dentition. Surgery involves physical and anaesthesiologic risks, long-time hospitalization, high costs and not always good results (15% failure rate). Alternatives to iliac crest bone grafting are going to be evaluated: synthetic, xenograft and allograft matrices combined with platelet-rich plasma or recombined bone morphogenic proteins for osteoinductivity are commercially available. Electronmicroscopy was performed on 5 surgical specimens from the mammary gland of 21-, 34-, 49-, 49-, and 51-years-old women.
