BACKGROUND: Dropped head syndrome (DHS) is a flexion deformity of the neck that is caused by severe weakness of the neck extensor muscles. D … HS with cervical spondylotic amyotrophy. A C2-Th5 posterior fusion with C3-C6 laminoplasty and C5-6 foraminotomy on the right side were performed. After surgery, the complaint of dropped head was improved significantly and bilaterally finger motion was improved slightly. His neck position was maintained at the final follow-up at about 1 year after surgery.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical disc replacement is an alternative to fusion for the treatment of selected cases of radiculopathy and myelopat … ossification. Complications included temporary dysphagia (10%) and progression of disease requiring foraminotomy (6%); no surgery for adjacent level disease was required. There was no significant difference in the outcomes of the radiculopathy and myelopathy groups.
CONCLUSION: Clinical outcomes using the NuNec™ disc replacement are comparable with other disc …

CONTEXT: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a progressive disease that can result in significant disability. Single-level stenosis can be effectively decompressed through either anterior or posterior techniques. However, multilevel pathology can be challenging, especially in the presence of significant spinal stenosis. Three-level anterior decompression and fusion are associated with higher nonunion rates and prolonged dysphagia. Posterior multilevel laminectomies with foraminotomies jeopardize the bone stock required for stable fixation with lateral mass screws (LMSs).

PURPOSE OF STUDY: This study presents a clinical and radiological evaluation of 50 consecutive patients with symptomatic spondylotic cervica … stry Neck Disability Scores improved from 25.7+/-3.6 to 16.6+/-7.1 (P<0.05). One patient required a foraminotomy/posterior discectomy 12 months postoperatively at an adjacent level.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate explanatory factors associated with neck-related disability, headache, and neck and arm pain 2 years after anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) or posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) in individuals with cervical radiculopathy (CR) and neck-related headache.
METHODS: This registry-based cohort study used prospectively collected data with a 2-year follow-up from the Swedish Spine Registry. Individuals who underwent ACDF (n=1,866) or PCF (n=357) for CR between January 2016 and March 2021 and reported preoperative neck-related headache were included. Stand…

Cervical radiculopathy of the C2-4 spinal nerves is a rare condition and is poorly documented in terms of clinical symptoms, hindering its d … ng tests and the C3-4 foraminal stenosis were indicative of isolated C-4 radiculopathy. Although less frequent than lumbar degenerative disc disease, cervical disc disease may be much more neurologically compromising due to anatomical particularities. Since its first description together with the typical signs and symptoms the operative therapy of cervical disc disease has undergone a changeful evolution over the years. The frequent shifts of paradigms in treatment are particularly noticeable compared to other neurosurgical diseases. Initially, the dorsal decompression of neural structures (laminectomy) with a more or less invasive posterior approach (posterior foraminotomy) was …

OBJECT: The authors compared differences in biomechanical stability between two decompressive laminectomy techniques for treating lumbar stenosis. A Christmas tree laminectomy (CTL), in which bilateral facetectomies and foraminotomies are performed, was compared with facet-sparing laminectomy (FSL), in which the facets are undercut but not resected. Spinal instability was assessed immediately postoperatively and again after discectomy to model long-term degeneration.
METHODS: Sixteen motion segments obtained from five human cadaveric lumbar specimens were studied in vitro by conducting nondes

BACKGROUND: Posterior percutaneous endoscopic cervical foraminotomy and diskectomy has remarkably evolved with successful results. Although percutaneous endoscopic cervical diskectomy (PECD) has gained popularity, the risk of surgical failure may be a major obstacle to performing PECD. We analyzed unsuccessful cases requiring reoperation. The objective of this article was to find common causes of surgical failure and elucidate the limitations of the conventional PECD technique.
METHODS: Surgery-related complications were reviewed from the initial 252 cases of a single surgeon. The patients ha…
