Gender differences in iridocorneal angle morphology: a potential explanation for the female predisposition to primary angle closure glaucoma in dogs.

OBJECTIVE: Female dogs have approximately twice the risk of males for developing primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG). The cause of this gender difference is unknown, but one theory proposes that the gender differences in iridocorneal angle morphology are involved in this risk differential. PROCEDURES: Fifty beagles (25 males, 25 females) were included into this study and had normal baseline ophthalmic examinations. Normal dogs were selected so as to avoid any potentially confounding influence of goniodysgenesis. Standardized 20-MHz high-resolution ultrasound images of the iridocorneal angle

Appositional closure identified by ultrasound biomicroscopy in population-based primary angle-closure glaucoma suspects: the Liwan eye study.

PURPOSE: To describe the characteristics of the iridocorneal angle using ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) in Chinese people classified gonioscopically as having suspected primary angle-closure (PACS) glaucoma. METHODS: PACS were defined as not having visible posterior (usually pigmented) trabecular meshwork in two or more quadrants examined by static gonioscopy. The PACS and 1 of 10 those who did not meet this criterion were identified from a population-based survey. Iridotrabecular meshwork contact (ITC) was identified and further classified into low and high, according to standard UBM images.

Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery in the surgical landscape of primary angle closure glaucoma: Current innovations and future trends.

Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is a major cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, with the highest burden in Asia. Its pathogenesis involves the interplay of multiple mechanisms, including pupillary block, plateau iris configuration, lens-related crowding, and dynamic choroidal expansion. Traditional surgical management has relied on trabeculectomy, lens extraction, or transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, which often achieve substantial intraocular pressure (IOP) control but carry significant risks and require prolonged recovery. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) expands trea

Acute Angle-Closure Glaucoma as an Ocular Complication of Dengue Fever: A Comprehensive Review.

Dengue fever, a rapidly spreading global epidemic, ranks among the most frequently reported viral infections worldwide, typically presenting with systemic symptoms such as fever, headache, and rash. Although generally linked to systemic issues, dengue infection can also lead to uncommon ocular complications, such as acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG), which poses a threat to sight. This review focuses on the alterations in the anterior chamber angle and the subsequent development of glaucoma after dengue infection. Prompt and precise diagnosis, aided by essential diagnostic tools like intraoc

[The role of choroidal thickness change in acute attack of primary angle closure glaucoma].

The mechanism of acute attack of primary angle closure glaucoma is unclear. Several studies showed that choroidal thickness was thicker in acute attack eyes than in follow eyes and normal eyes. However, these results are not enough to support the point that choroidal thickness increase is the cause for acute attack of primary angle closure glaucoma. Narrow anterior chamber angle, shallow anterior chamber are risk factors for primary angle closure glaucoma. Dynamic changes of iris, cilliary body crystalline lens and choroid all have effect on the angle width. They could contribute to the acute
