In 1993, we described an autosomal-dominant syndrome in a German family characterized by ectrodactyly/syndactyly, dysplasia of nails, lacrimal duct atresia, hypodontia, hypoplastic breasts and nipples, intensive freckling (ADULT syndrome, acro-dermato-ungual-lacrimal-tooth syndrome, MIM 103285). In 1996 a large Dutch family with an autosomal-dominant syndrome ("limb mammary syndrome", LMS, MIM *603543) characterized by hypoplasia/aplasia of mammary glands and nipples, ectrodactyly, other hand/foot anomalies, lacrimal-duct atresia, nail dysplasia, hypohidrosis, cleft palate/bifid uvula, hypodon

BACKGROUND: Multikinase inhibitors (MKIs) treatment has been proven as a powerful strategy in cancer therapy. However, it is greatly hampered by its common adverse effect known as hand-foot skin reaction (HFSR), especially in patients with moderate-to-severe HFSR.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical characteristics, histopathological features, treatment response, and bio-indicators of HFSR.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 102 patients with moderate-to-severe HFSR resulting from MKIs therapy.
RESULTS: The median time to development of moderate-to-severe HFSR wa

Laurin-Sandrow syndrome (LSS) is an extremely rare syndrome of mirror hand and leg with less than 20 cases reported in literature. The syndrome has been attributed to a mutation in the MIPOL-1 (mirror-image polydactyly) gene located on locus 14q13.3-q21 coding for CCDC193 (coiled-coli domain containing 193) protein. It is characterised by limb, facial and central nervous system anomalies with the most constant being fibular dimelia with fibular ray duplication, polydactyly with secondary deformities of fixed equinus, knee joint instability and flexion deformity. It is associated less frequentl

Osteolysis syndromes include a group of heterogeneous disorders that can be mistakenly diagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in early course of the disease. We report a case of 16-year-old girl who presented with severe joint deformities, subcutaneous nodules and linear skin indurations. She had been diagnosed as having JIA before and given immunosuppressive therapy. X-ray of the joints showed severe osteopenia and osteolysis of interphalangeal joints of the hands and feet. The patient was diagnosed as having Torg/nodulosis, arthropathy, osteolysis syndrome (NAO). Here, we briefly d

The main features of the Curry-Jones syndrome are syndactyly, pre-axial polydactyly, craniosynostosis, absent corpus callosum, skin anomalies (characteristic pearly white areas that become scarred and atrophic, with increased hair growth), colobomas or microphthalmia and intestinal obstruction because of multiple benign myofibromata of the large bowel. Developmental delay occurs in half of the reported patients. The patient reported here has a mild form of the condition with polysyndactyly and skin changes but no craniosynostosis, bowel problems or developmental delay.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a multisystem disease with typically nondeforming articular manifestations. Erosive arthropathy is an uncommon condition in patients with BD. We report herein an unusual case of long-standing BD with extensive erosive arthropathy radiologically mimicking psoriatic arthritis.

A few cases have been presented regarding Hypoglassia Congenita with anterior maxillo-mandibular fusion. Our case is reported as Hypoglassia Congenita but with complete maxillo-mandibular fusion associated with hypodactylia. This condition presented as a problem of not being able to open the mouth, so there is no capacity for feeding and, more so, speech.

We describe two sibs with tetraectrodactyly and oligomeganephronic renal hypoplasia. The parents were unaffected. This syndrome of apparently autosomal recessive origin appears to be the first Mendelian form of the acrorenal developmental field defect identified so far.

A Pakistani kindred comprising 7 generations contained 7 men and 2 women with fibular hypoplasia and complex brachydactyly (syn: Du Pan syndrome). Analysis of the pedigree is strongly suggestive of autosomal recessive inheritance. The average inbreeding coefficient (F) for the affected persons was found to be significantly greater than that for unaffected persons in the pedigree and consanguineous loops could account for all affected persons being homozygous for the abnormal allele.

Nine members of a three generation family were affected with the combination of brachydactyly, type E and heart defect, mainly atrial septal defect, type II. A similar malformation pattern of autosomal dominant origin has not previously been delineated.

Case reports are presented of a father and daughter suffering from what has formerly been called the Nievergelt-Pearlmansyndrome, and now termed "multiple synostoses syndrome." Features of the condition include: proximal symphalangism; tarsal and carpal coalitions; short first metacarpals and metatarsals; elbow fusions or dysplasias; conductive nerve deafness. This syndrome appears to be inherited as an autosomal dominant trait of variable penetrance, and probably caused by a single gene abnormality.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation of the vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) score with Timed 25-Foot Walk (T25FW), 9-Hole Peg Test (9HPT), Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT) and EDSS in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).
METHODS: This prospective, cross sectional study included 52 patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS). Cervical VEMP (cVEMP) and ocular VEMP (oVEMP), analyzed in the form of the cVEMP, oVEMP and VEMP scores, T25FW, 9HPT, PASAT and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) were performed.
RESULTS: The only predictor of walking impairment in

A 14-month-old boy presented with generalised vesicular eruption involving the face, trunk and extremities accompanied by high grade fever. He had associated redness and purulent discharge from both eyes. Examination revealed erosions on the tongue, soft palate and genitalia with haemorrhagic crusts on the lips and nasal orifices. All laboratory investigations were within normal limits except leucocytosis. Chest x-ray showed left middle zone pneumonitis. Treatment was by paracetamol, antibiotics and oral acyclovir. Desquamation started from the eighth day. Our purpose in reporting this case is

Until now less than 200 cases of Rothmund Thomson syndrome (RTS) also called Poikiloderma atrophicans have been reported. RTS is an autosomal recessive dermatosis characterized by athropy and teleangiectasia of the skin, juvenile cataract, hypogonadism and sceletal abnormalities. These osseous disorders include cortical hyperostosis mimicking rickets or chondrodysthropy and may mask early signs of malignant disorders. This seems to be a problem due to the fact that there is an association between osteosarcoma and RTS. The radiologic findings of both RTS and osteosarcoma in a 7 year old female

An 8.5-month-old male infant with Kawasaki disease (KD) received high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy on the fifth day after fever onset. However, multiple peripheral limb ischemias occurred 2 days later. Accordingly, heparin followed by dipyridamole was administered. Aside from a small amputation at the tip of the right middle finger, all other digital ischemias resolved. This presentation demonstrates that early recognition and management of peripheral gangrene in KD may keep its sequela to a minimum.

We report a family in which four members of three generations are affected by median cleft palate. The proband and her mother have additional features including bilateral single transverse palmar creases, broad great toes and hypoplastic fifth toenails. Dominant isolated cleft palate has rarely been reported, and there are no previous reports of dominant cleft palate with these associated features. We believe that this represents a previously unreported syndrome, which needs to be considered when assessing recurrence risk for cleft palate.
