We report a rare case of acute abdomen caused by the spontaneous rupture of a splenic hydatid cyst into the abdominal cavity, causing a massive hemoperitoneum due to accompanying rupture of the spleen which required splenectomy. A case of primary ovarian pregnancy associated with an intrauterine device in a multipara taking thyroglobulin is reported. The clinical signs and symptoms were identical to those of any ectopic pregnancy with tubal rupture and hemoperitoneum. The final diagnosis was based on the histopathological findings. The literature is reviewed and the association between IUD and ovarian pregnancy is discussed.

Plasmodium vivax, which was previously considered 'benign', has come out with unusual severe symptoms. We, here present an unusual case of Plasmodium vivax malaria presenting with spontaneous splenic rupture with hemoperitoneum, renal and pulmonary dysfunction. Following conservative management, there was an uneventful recovery, and the patient was discharged in a good general condition.

Ruptured uterus presenting in first trimester of pregnancy is extremely uncommon and should raise the suspicion of uterine malformations. We report a case of a 24-year-old primigravida with 10 weeks of gestation presenting with acute abdomen and hemoperitoneum. Laparotomy revealed bicornuate uterus with ruptured rudimentary horn. The incidence, diagnosis and management of such cases is discussed.

A cirrhotic patient with hemoperitoneum was found, at laparotomy, to be bleeding from variceal vessels in the peritoneum lateral to the ascending colon. Radiological in vestigations before surgery did not identify the source of blood loss. Despite hemostasis being obtained, the patient died postoperatively. The 5 previously reported cases of intraabdominal bleeding from variceal vessels are reviewed.
