Congenital generalized hypertrichosis terminalis is a rare primary hypertrichotic condition, of unknown etiology presenting in the pediatric population. Though benign in nature, there is considerable psychosocial trauma attached to this, owing to the cosmetic disfigurement it produces. Hypertrichosis is a well-recognized adverse effect of therapy with either oral or topical minoxidil. We report a case of fronto-temporal hypertrichosis occurring in an 8-year-old girl treated for patchy alopecia areata of the frontal area of the scalp with 2% minoxidil solution. After failure of 5-months minoxidil-discontinuation, hair removal with Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm line) (Smartepil II, Deka) was tested leading to complete resolution within 2 sessions.

We describe an interesting patient with a diffuse smooth muscle hamartoma who presented with hypertrichosis, increased skin folds, and follicular dimpling. While smooth muscle hamartoma classically presents as a small hairy, skin-colored to hyperpigmented patch or plaque, rare presentations with diffuse involvement or follicular papules have been described. We present our patient and review the literature to highlight the diverse and under recognized manifestations of this benign neoplasm.

We report on a child, born to a consanguineous parents, who presented with a multiple congenital anomalies (MCA) pattern consisting of severe hypertrichosis, macrostomia, ectropion, and atrophic skin. To our knowledge this is the third case with this combination of defects. The two previous cases were reported by Barber et al. [Syndrome Identification VIII(1):6-9, 1982], and David et al. [Am J Med Genet 41:192-195, 1991].

Two cases of transient hypertrichosis of the upper extremity in young females associated with closed fractures are presented in support of the concept of the "regional acceleratory phenomenon" as proposed by Frost wherein trauma evokes increased regional blood flow and increased metabolism on the part of all local soft tissues. This abnormality which was of much concern in terms of cosmesis resolved over approximately six months.
