Nevertheless, MR imaging can contribute to cost-effective management in women who have suspected myomas or adenomyosis by establishing the diagnosis noninvasively. Seven patients with secondary amenorrhoea were diagnosed as having severe uterine synechiae by hysterosalpingography (HSG) and hysteroscopy, which revealed short, narrow and/or scarred uterine cavities as cone or column shapes. Laminaria tents were used to distend the uterine cavity prior to transcervical resectoscopy to completely dissect the dense adhesions. We have observed that hydrosalpinx develops in some patients undergoing ovulation induction as part of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer and gamete intrafallopian transfer programs. Increased tubal secretions due to multihormonal stimulation causes a blocked tube to distend by the time of oocyte harvest. Four cases of salpingitis isthmica nodosa diagnosed from a total of 82 hysterosalpingograms, over a period of three years at the General Hospital, Kota Bharu, were reviewed. Excised tubal segments from 94 infertile women with tubal obstruction, with a mean infertility duration of 5.3 years, and 40 women with ectopic tubal pregnancy were studied histopathologically to evaluate the association with salpingitis isthmica nodosa (SIN).
