Scientific studies of environmental disasters, whether human or natural in origin, have shown that the psychological impact of such events may be considerable and long-lasting. Several natural disasters have occurred in France, but their impact on public psychological health has not been assessed. Numerous authors have theorized that defense mechanisms play a role in personality disorders. We reviewed theoretical writings and empirical studies about defenses in schizotypal, borderline, antisocial, and narcissistic personality disorders, developing hypotheses about these differential relationships. Severe, work-related hand injuries are often accompanied by a significant number of psychological symptoms that are frequently associated with posttraumatic stress disorders. These symptoms occur in the following four domains of psychological functioning: cognitive, affective, physiological, and behavioral. The aim of this study is to examine the mental health problems of older adults living in a residential home in a Greek rural area. A sample of 40 residents was compared with 40 matched controls attending a community open care centre for the elderly (OCCE). OBJECTIVE: To understand the knowledge and prevalence of domestic violence (DV) among married women in rural China.
METHODS: Proportional to Population Size(PPS) sampling method was conducted to select 3998 women aged 18 years old and above from Jilin, Anhui and Chongqing. All the women were interviewed using a standardized questionnaire during Nov. 2004-Jan. 2005.
RESULTS: The prevalence of spousal violence against women was 64.8 % in a lifetime and 42.6% in the past 12 months before the survey. Psychological violence was the most common type, followed by physical violence and sexual abuse.

The present prospective test study of hypotheses addressed the question whether psychological factors are predictive of survival time in lung cancer patients. The hypotheses were: Emotional distress, depression and depressive coping are associated with shorter survival; hope and active coping with longer survival. Psychological drawbacks of intensive obstetrics on the one hand and the results from psychology in the perinatal period on the other hand demand a new mental hygiene in the delivery room and on maternity wards. The "family-oriented obstetrics" met these problems best. Interviews were made with 650 mothers, just after delivery to find on the attitude for "family-oriented obstetrics". Presence of husband in the delivery room is wanted from 47,4% of the married couple. 98,15% from the mothers wanted nursing and 83,69% rooming-in.
