PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review highlights recently published studies on transscleral and endoscopic diode cyclophotocoagulation (TCP, ECP) and summarizes the treatment results and complications.
RECENT FINDINGS: Although both TCP and ECP are efficacious procedures for the treatment of refractory glaucoma, no consensus exists for optimum treatment protocol. TCP has mainly been used as a last-resort treatment for intractable glaucoma with very limited visual potential. Repeated treatment is often required. Vitreous hemorrhage is one of the most common differential diagnoses for sudden painless decrease in vision. Often, it is caused by retinal vascular disorders secondary to common systemic ailments such as diabetes mellitus, systemic hypertension and haematological abnormalities. Sometimes it may be the beginning of a retinal tear and consequent retinal detachment that can be vision threatening if not operated early. This paper lays out practical guidelines for a tailored approach needed to arrive at the aetiology of vitreous haemorrhage so that appropriate, timely treatment can be planned.

Vitreous haemorrhage is a serious complication of proliferative diabetic retinopathy: it provides evidence of the severity of at proliferative retinopathy at stake and precludes laser photocoagulation. Laser energy, as a cyclodestructive source for the treatment of glaucoma, can be delivered by several routes. The transscleral approach has the advantages of being noninvasive and relatively quick and easy, but the disadvantages of unpredictable results and a high complication rate. In a randomized study, 204 patients were allocated to either laser or cryo treatment for cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (CIN). The patients were treated on an outpatient basis without anesthesia unless other conditions requiring anesthesia had to be dealt with at the same time. In this report, two rare cases of large atrophic peripheral retinal holes are described. Both patients presented during a routine visit without reporting any ocular symptoms.
