The new triterpene turranoic acid (1) and the new N-containing nor-triterpene turraenine (2), along with triptocallic acid B (3) and esculentoic acid (4) were isolated from leaves of a Turraea sp. Compounds 1-3 showed weak to moderate in vitro antiplasmodial activity against the chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum strain FCM29. Compound 1 also displayed weak cytotoxic activity against the nonsmall lung cancer cell line H522-T1 with an IC50 value of 16.4 μM.

METHODS: In this retrospective case study, 6 separate series from a single tertiary care referral center practice are described. A new cryoprobe for cyclocryocoagulation was investigated in a clinical trial. A group of 15 patients was treated with one step coagulation at 120 degrees C; a control group of 15 patients was treated with a CO2-cooled cryoprobe using circular coagulation in the usual manner. Statistical evaluation showed a significant drop in IOP in both groups after cryocoagulation.
