OBJECTIVE: To report the ultrastructure of nasal mucosal cilia of Kartagener's syndrome and the operative results of 2 cases.
METHODS: Both two cases were underwent endoscopic sinus surgery. Transmission and scanning electron microscopic examinations of nasal mucosa for case 1 were performed.

We present our results of 211 patients with acoustic neuroma over a period of 10 years, 1988-97. We operated on 100 and 111 had Gamma-knife (GK) treatment (69 were available to follow-up). The results are excellent for surgery on small and intracanalicular tumours. In tumours of the same size, surgery and GK treatment give comparable, but somewhat different, results. PURPOSE: To observe the pathologic change of the endogenous endophthalmitis of cryptococcus neoformans.
METHODS: Light and electron microscope were used.
RESULT: The choroid was focally tumor-like by an inflammatory cells infiltrate, which consisted of multinucleated gicant, epithelioid cells and lymphocytes. Special stains (Grocott's methnamine silver, PAS, alcian blue) and electron microscope disclosed the budding form of cryptococcus neoformans.
CONCLUSION: The morphologic examinations are only an effectivel method of diagrosing the endogenous endophthalmitis of cryptococcus neoformans.

BACKGROUND: Skeletal abnormalities are common in sickle cell anemia. Ischemia, infarction, and growth disturbance of the thoracic and lumbar vertebral bodies are among the most common abnormalities, and can suggest the diagnosis radiographically.
DESIGN AND PATIENTS: We recently encountered two adult patients in whom vertebrae had grown abnormally in height adjacent to infarcted short vertebrae. We then reviewed the thoracic and lumbar spine radiographs of 54 more adult patients with sickle cell anemia.

BACKGROUND: To analyze the frequency and number of suspected peribiliary cysts in cirrhotic liver on computed tomography (CT).
METHODS: Three hundred forty-six cases with clinically diagnosed liver cirrhosis (LC) and 307 cases with clinically diagnosed non-LC were subjected to the study. The frequency and number of suspected peribiliary cysts on CT were compared between the two groups. The existence of peribiliary cysts was suggested when a cyst was observed around the second- to fourth-order branches of the intrahepatic portal vein.

20 cases of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients were treated with Yisuikang (YSK) including MDS-RA 17 cases, MDS-RAEB 2 cases, MDS-RAEB-T 1 case. 14 patients were treated with YSK only, 6 cases were treated with both YSK and Western medicine. Extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation was performed on 22 eyes of 16 patients with congenital or traumatic cataract and with ages ranging from 4 to 7 years old. The periods of follow-up were 1-2 years with a mean, 18 months. The postoperative reaction was mild, no untoward complications occurred in the remote follow-up and the postoperative visual acuities recovered well. The youngest age of IOL implantation, the choice of diopter of refraction and the management of intra- and post-operative complications were discussed.
