The Drosophila oocyte develops within a cyst of 16 germline cells interconnected by ring canals. Polarized, microtubule-based transport of unknown determinants is required for oocyte formation, but whether polarity is established during or after cyst formation is not clear. The in vitro culture of fully grown mammalian oocytes results in spontaneous meiotic maturation from prophase arrest to metaphase II. This maturation can be inhibited by steroid hormones in both murine and porcine oocytes. A total of 199 patients (412 consecutive cycles) were treated by oocyte-embryo donation in 336 replacement cycles. Of these, 296 involved intra-uterine embryo transfers, 38 zygote intra-Fallopian transfers (ZIFT) and two gamete intra-Fallopian transfers (GIFT). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of dietary quercetin on the retrieved mouse oocytes and IVF outcomes.
METHODS: Female mice were divided into two groups. Mice were given 0.2 mL water without (control group) or with quercetin 30 mg/kg (quercetin group) orally via gavage, once a day for 21 consecutive days.
