Swedish private-sector employees' experiences of promoting and hindering factors for working while having mental health problems: A qualitative study.

OBJECTIVES: The workplace is an important arena for identifying and managing early symptoms of mental health problems. This study aimed to explore how private sector employees at risk of sickness absence due to mental health problems experienced promoting and hindering factors for working. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 employees with mental health problems (≥3 on the General Health Questionnaire or who answered yes to a question on self-predicted sickness absence in the coming year due to common mental disorders). Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyze th

Continuous Increase in Both Waiting and Process Time in the Emergency Rooms of Abruzzo, Italy.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: A recent report by the Italian Ministry of Health showed that a high proportion of Emergency Department (ED) visits exceed the maximum recommended thresholds for both waiting time and overall length of stay. As no overall quantitative data are available on the magnitude, temporal evolution, and underlying drivers of ED performance from Southern Italian regions, we analyzed ED data from the Abruzzo region during the years 2017-2024, and evaluated potential predictors of prolonged waiting and process time. METHODS: Official, administrative data from all the regional EDs w

Medical-Bioethical Mediation as a Potential Governance Innovation for Sustainable, Efficient, and Resilient Healthcare Systems.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Healthcare systems increasingly operate through dense networks of clinicians, managers, public health authorities, institutions, and communities. Disagreement is no longer confined to bedside decisions; it also affects coordination, legitimacy, and implementation at system level. Bioethics, administrative governance, and consultation processes address important parts of this problem, but they do not by themselves provide a dedicated process for handling persistent disagreement, mistrust, and competing values across actors and institutions. This paper proposes medical-bio

B-Onic Platform for Point-of-Care 3D Printing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Clinical Implementation and Surgical Impact.

Background and Objectives: The integration of digital planning and point-of-care (POC) manufacturing has expanded rapidly in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS); however, evidence focusing on regulated, platform-based workflows and their clinical impact remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and organizational impact of implementing a unified digital ecosystem centered on the B-Onic platform in routine OMFS practice. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted comparing OMFS procedures planned and executed using the B-Onic platform with a hist

Who Should Address Healthcare Institutional Betrayal and How? An Experimental Study of Repair Strategies.

Background/Objectives: Healthcare institutional betrayal (HIB) is a betrayal trauma that occurs when a healthcare organization or system perpetrates acts of wrongdoing against or fails to act to protect an individual who depends upon that system for care and services. Known consequences of experiencing acts of HIB include increased healthcare provider and system distrust and anticipated healthcare avoidance, highlighting the public health implications of unaddressed HIB. Little is known about actions that healthcare stakeholders can take to repair HIB. Thus, this study experimentally tested th

Physical and emotional health among nurses in protracted crisis settings in Lebanon and Jordan: A cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVES: Nurses working in crisis-affected and refugee-hosting settings face demanding conditions that may compromise their physical and emotional health. Evidence on the prevalence and determinants of these outcomes in such contexts remains limited. This study assessed nurses' physical and emotional health in Lebanon and Jordan and identified key associated factors using regression and random forest models. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among hospital nurses providing care to Syrian refugees in Lebanon (n = 976; response rate 52%) and Jordan (n = 2,012; response rate 80.

Leadership and Organizational Responses After Patient Safety Incidents: A Systematic Review of Second-Victim Outcomes and Evidence Gaps in Safety Behaviors.

Background/Objectives: Patient safety incidents can adversely affect healthcare professionals, but relationships between leadership and organizational responses, clinician recovery, professional consequences, and safety-related outcomes remain incompletely synthesized. This review examined contemporary quantitative evidence on these relationships and the extent to which directly measured safety behaviors and patient-safety outcomes have been evaluated. Methods: This PROSPERO-registered systematic review (CRD420261453278) followed PRISMA 2020 and PRISMA-S. PubMed and Scopus were searched as the

Interprofessional advanced access - a quality improvement protocol for expanding access to primary care services.

BACKGROUND: The Advanced Access (AA) Model has shown considerable success in improving timely access for patients in primary care settings. As a result, a majority of family physicians have implemented AA in their organizations over the last decade. However, despite its widespread use, few professionals other than physicians and nurse practitioners have implemented the model. Among those who have integrated it to their practice, a wide variation in the level of implementation is observed, suggesting a need to support primary care teams in continuous improvement with AA implementation. This qua

Assessing the practising physician using patient surveys: a systematic review of instruments and feedback methods.

BACKGROUND: Individual physician performance assessment is a vital part of the medical regulation debate. In this context, the patient perspective is seen as a potentially valid component. Yet, the theoretical and empirical evidence base for such patient assessments is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To identify and evaluate instruments designed to assess patients' experiences with an individual practising physician, and to provide performance feedback at the individual level. METHODS: Nine electronic databases were searched with no language restrictions: PubMed (1985-), Embase (1985-), PsycInfo (1985-

This framework has four components: 1) evidence base for practice; 2) clinical preventive services, including health promotion; 3) health systems and health policy; and 4) community aspects of pract

Associations Among Work and Family Health Climate, Health Behaviors, Work Schedule, and Body Weight.

OBJECTIVES: Correctional employees exhibit elevated obesity rates. This study examines interrelations among health behaviors, health climate, body mass index (BMI), and work schedule. METHODS: Using survey results from correctional supervisors (n = 157), mediation and moderated-mediation analyses were performed to examine how health behaviors explain relationships between obesity, work health climate (WHC) and family health climate (FHC), and work schedule. RESULTS: Over 85% of the sample was overweight/obese (mean BMI = 30.20). Higher WHC and FHC were associated with lower BMI, mediated by

Implementing palliative reasoning in multiprofessional palliative care: A participatory action research in the Netherlands.

CONTEXT: In the Netherlands, two interventions exist to support healthcare professionals in assessing palliative care needs and providing multidimensional generalist palliative care. Separate use hindered communication, interprofessional collaboration, and multidimensional care. To address this, the two existing interventions were integrated into a single multiprofessional intervention, Palliative Reasoning. The Palliative Reasoning Working Method (PRWM) was developed to support its implementation in daily practice. OBJECTIVES: To iteratively adapt and implement the PRWM in primary care, hosp
