Fluid management among outpatients with chronic heart failure: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic heart failure (CHF) significantly impairs patients' quality of life and poses a substantial clinical burden. Fluid management is a critical aspect of self-care in CHF, particularly in out-of-hospital settings. However, the current status and factors influencing fluid management abilities among CHF patients outside the hospital remain insufficiently explored. This study aimed to examine the current state of out-of-hospital fluid management in CHF patients and identify factors influencing their self-management behavior. METHODS: A total of 184 patients were included in thi

Early Antiviral Therapy in Pediatric Outpatients and Risk of Influenza-Related Hospitalization.

OBJECTIVES: Evidence on the effectiveness of antiviral therapy in preventing influenza-related severe illness and hospitalization among children remains limited. We hypothesized that early administration of antiviral therapy within 48 hours of symptom onset would significantly reduce the risk of subsequent influenza-related severe illness and hospitalization. METHODS: This multicenter, age- and season-matched, retrospective case-control study included all pediatric outpatients with laboratory-confirmed influenza who sought care at the participating hospitals between 2020 and 2023. Cases were …

The association between hyperkyphosis and physical function in geriatric outpatients with frailty.

UNLABELLED: Currently, it is unknown whether hyperkyphosis is associated with lower physical function in older persons with frailty, who hav … sociated with the Timed Up and Go test and Berg Balance Scale, even in this population of geriatric outpatients with frailty and multimorbidity, thereby more at risk for functional decline. Early detection and treatment of hyperkyphosis may contribute to the preservation of physical function.

Psychiatric Severity and Resilience in Outpatients Seeking Treatment for Cocaine Use Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Cocaine use disorder (CocUD) remains a significant public health concern, with elevated mortality rates. Severe psychiatric disorders frequently co-occur with CocUD, possibly associated with an increased frequency of childhood trauma and with lower resilience - the capacity to overcome traumatic life events, compared to the general population. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychiatric severity, resilience and childhood trauma in treatment-seeking CocUD outpatients. METHODS: We analyzed the data from a multicenter, cross-sectional study, totalizing 305 Coc…

[Infectious diseases in older adults: Key considerations for common infections in outpatients].

The article highlights the increased incidence, severity, and mortality of bacterial infectious diseases in older adults, often presenting atypically and complicating diagnosis. Aging-related immune changes (immunosenescence) and chronic conditions heighten susceptibility and worsen outcomes. Pneumonia and urinary tract infections are most common, with diagnostic challenges due to nonspecific symptoms like confusion or functional decline. Effective prevention, timely diagnosis, and tailored treatment, including rational antibiotic use, are critical to improve prognosis in this vulnerable popul
