Erythema nodosum is an acute nodular panniculitis, mainly affecting young women. Diverse etiologies are evoked, but the most frequent are sarcoidosis (Löfgren syndrome), streptococcal infections, yersiniosis and inflammatory enteropathies. Antalgic drugs and rest are usually adequate in this condition, which is spontaneously of favourable evolution. Treatment of the cause is open to discussion, considering their lack of effect on the evolution of erythema nodosum.

The panniculitides are a complex dermatologic entity for both dermatologists and dermatopathologists. Panniculitis is an inflammation of the subcutaneous adipose tissue and can be associated with systemic diseases. We present a case of cold panniculitis, a form of traumatic panniculitis, in a 37-year-old woman that was caused by a cold therapy unit. Our patient did not develop lesions until 10 days following initiation of therapy, which is a unique presentation of cold panniculitis, as lesions usually develop 1 to 3 days after cold exposure.

Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare skin disorder that occurs in 2-3% of pancreatic diseases, mostly associated with acute or chronic pancreatitis. Its pathophysiology is still unclear, but the release of pancreatic enzymes in circulation can be responsible for this disorder. Panniculitis, inflammation of the subcutaneous fat, is a relatively uncommon condition that usually presents with inflammatory nodules or plaques. Erythema nodosum (EN) is clinically the most frequent form of panniculitis and is considered a reactive process that may be triggered by a wide variety of stimuli. A 22-year-old pinto mixed breed mare was admitted for evaluation of severe colic signs and gastric reflux. Multiple nonpainful, variably sized hard masses were palpated in the subcutis over the thorax, abdomen, and hindquarters of the horse. A 76-year-old female was referred to our hospital for examination of milky pleural effusion. We diagnosed her illness as chylothorax because of the high concentration of triglyceride in the effusion. There was neither obstruction nor damage of the thoracic duct. Systemic evaluation disclosed an abdominal mass in the umbilical region.
