Records of all inmates committed to a state forensic hospital in fiscal year 1982 (N = 472) were studied to examine the inmates' hospital utilization between September 1977 and April 1984 and the reasons for their admissions. Medication refusal, hallucinations and delusions, and threatened or potential violent behavior toward others were the most frequently documented reasons for admission. A significant proportion of all patients offered group therapy "drop out" before any help can be given to them. This process of attrition is likely to be even higher in adolescent groups. The author assessed the traits of the mental development of children from schizophrenic patients. A prevalence of schizoid types of personality was seen. The personality was also being analyzed from the point of view of age traits in asthenic, sthenic and mixed variants of the schizoid type. An analysis of a group of ill children (96) with a schizophrenic hereditary loading gave grounds to assume that the differences in the premorbid development of the children correlate with the differences of the initial stage and the type of development of schizophrenia.

Female nursing students who had completed an instructional and experiential training program were compared on their perception, beliefs and opinions about mental illness with students who had just entered the same program. The results showed that students who had completed their training were better able to perceive the presence and severity of mental illness. Gilbert's Syndrome is a benign familial condition in which unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia occurs in the absence of structural liver disease or hemolysis. Phenothiazines and tricyclic medications are often withheld in patients with preexisting liver disease. The authors present four patients with Gilbert's Syndrome and concurrent psychiatric illness.
