Polyoma virus is a recognized cause of hemorrhagic cystitis, viral nephropathy, and ureteral stricture in renal and stem cell transplant recipients. Rarely, polyoma virus causes native kidney and bladder pathology in heavily immunosuppressed patients. We report a unique case of native kidney polyoma virus nephropathy, urothelial ulceration, and renal pelvic fibrosis presenting as a mass lesion in a non-debilitated, apparently immunocompetent man. Based on radiologic, ureterorenoscopic, and urine cytologic findings, a laparoscopic nephrectomy was performed. However, nephrectomy revealed a hemor

A 63-year-old Japanese man with a 1-month history of dyschezia and dysuria was referred to our hospital. Transrectal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a mass involving the prostate, measuring about 6.5 cm. The serum prostate specific antigen was 20.3 ng/ml. By the transperineal needle biopsy, it was suspected to be fibrosarcoma. Total pelvic exenteration was performed. Histopathological examination of the tumor revealed carcinosarcoma of the prostate. One month after the operation local recurrence was manifested by perineal pain. The recurrent tumor grew rapidly with

BACKGROUND: Desmoid tumors (DT) is a rare soft tissue tumor classified as a borderline neoplasm. It exhibits locally aggressive growth and is prone to postoperative recurrence.
CASE PRESENTATION: We reported the first case of adolescent pelvic DT ureteral fistula, and report the patient's all progress of diagnosis and treatment. A recurrent pelvic DT in an adolescent female patient who initially underwent surgical resection but experienced recurrence, was effectively treated with sorafenib. Later, however, the patient's tumor changed from solid to cystic solid mixed, increasing in size, and t

Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are rare malignant tumors originating from mesenchymal cells. Extremities are the most commonly affected anatomical sites, and majority of them present as a painless mass. We present a very interesting case of high-grade spindle cell sarcoma of the pelvis manifested as urinary retention and bloody diarrhea. A 68-year-old male presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain, inability to void urine, and bloody diarrhea. Straight urinary catheterization retrieved 900 mL of urine, and a Foley catheter was placed. All laboratory workup including complete blood

The Authors report their experience about totally mechanical coloanal anastomoses. Seven patients affected by rectal cancer and submitted to proctosigmoidectomy and, following totally mechanical coloanal anastomoses as described by Goligher are taken in consideration. The distance of the neoplasm from the anal verge goes from 5 to 7 cm. Using Dukes classification 6 patients were classified in B stage, only 1 in A stage and nobody in C stage. No patient received adjuvant radiotherapy. In the patients in B stage has been performed an extended ilio-pelvic lynfoadenectomy. Particular attention was

Gynecologic malignancies represent a major public health challenge in Mexico, remaining among the principal causes of morbidity and mortality in women. Endometrial carcinoma constitutes one of the most frequent neoplasms, with its staging and management requiring a surgical approach in accordance with contemporary international standards. A descriptive report was conducted on the first patient treated with robot-assisted surgery for endometrial cancer at the Oncology Hospital. Preoperative assessment included standard imaging and clinical staging to confirm that the disease was confined to the

Gestational choriocarcinomas are malignant neoplasms generally arising in the uterus in women of childbearing age. These are aggressive tumors with a high incidence of metastasis to vascular organs such as the lung, liver, and brain. Renal metastasis is extremely rare with low incidence rate and very few cases have been reported in literature. Hereby, we report a rare case of metastatic choriocarcinoma to the kidney in a 29-year-old female 10 years after resection of a hydatidiform mole. The histopathological diagnosis was made on a nephrectomy specimen. Pelvic and abdominal scan did not show

Acute lower abdominal pain or pelvic pain is a common presenting complaint in women of reproductive age, which can be accounted for by numerous aetiologies. The presentation of lower abdominal pain with associated findings of an adnexal mass on transvaginal ultrasonography and positive beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) (serum and urine) in a sexually active woman of reproductive age is an ectopic pregnancy until proven otherwise. Here, we present a classic case suggestive of an unruptured ectopic pregnancy, with an unexpected finding of a unilateral dermoid cyst intraoperatively in a 3

Cutaneous small vessel vasculitis is a severe neutrophilic vascular inflammation mediated by immune complexes that involves the dermal postcapillary venules. Neoplasms represent 2-5% of all causes of secondary cutaneous vasculitis. We present a case of a 52-year-old man who was admitted due to a 10-day history of respiratory symptoms and myalgia. From the third day of symptoms onwards, the patient noticed the appearance of cutaneous lesions in the lower limbs with palpable purpura and erythematous papules. Additionally, he reported of asthenia, anorexia and weight loss during the prior month.

UNLABELLED: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are categorized as intermediate biologic neoplasms, whereas IMTs with genetic features of ran-binding protein 2 (RANBP2) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement (IMT-RAs) are possibly related to a more aggressive clinical course. However, fewer than 10 cases of IMT-RA have been reported to date. Herein, we present 2 new cases of IMT-RA in which both tumors recurred quickly after primary surgery; one patient died 3 months later from the disease, and the other patient has been living with the disease for 12 months. IMT-RAs are cha

We report here on the multiple genital tract neoplasms in a 41-yr-old Korean woman with Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS). The patient presented with lower abdominal pain. Her previous medical history was PJS and breast cancer. Pelvic ultrasound showed a multilocular cyst at the right adnexal region, diagnosed as bilateral ovarian mucinous borderline tumors. An ovarian sex cord tumor with annular tubules was incidentally diagnosed together with a minimal deviation adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix and mucinous metaplasia of both the Fallopian tubal mucosa and the endometrium. Although the cases

The potential for adenocarcinoma metastatic to the ovary to mimic primary mucinous neoplasms is a well-known issue to surgical pathologists, most of the recent literature emphasizing pancreatic and various other origins for the ovarian metastases. Although an origin in the gallbladder or extrahepatic bile ducts is acknowledged for some cases little information exists on tumors originating within the intrahepatic bile ducts. Sixteen cases of this type were retrieved from the surgical pathology files of the Chiang Mai University Hospital between January 1992 and December 2006. The patients range

Osteosarcoma (OSA) is the most common primary bone neoplasm affecting dogs and the appendicular bones are frequently affected, accounting for up to 80% of reported cases. After tumor diagnosis and staging, surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy is the standard treatment of care. The purpose of this narrative literature review is to describe the anatomical landmarks and amputation techniques performed in the treatment of canine appendicular OSA, also using cadaveric models to demonstrate it. Surgical treatment options may include amputation of the affected limb, considered the standard of ca

Fetiform teratoma, another name for homunculus, is a rare form of mature teratoma that is highly differentiated and has parts that resemble a malformed fetus. We reported a case of ovarian Fetiform teratoma in a 38 years old nulliparous woman presented with right side abdominal distention of 10 years duration. An ultrasound revealed a heterogeneous pelvic cystic mass that ranged in appearance from fully hyperechoic to fully hypoechoic, suggesting mature cystic teratoma. The patient underwent laparotomy. Histopathology of Cystectomy specimen was found to be compatible with Fetiform teratoma. It

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) represents a rare neoplasm affecting almost exclusively women of reproductive age. This condition mainly affects the lungs, but extrapulmonary locations such as the pelvis and the retroperitoneum are possible. Clinical evaluation and ultrasound imaging are usually non-specific, and the diagnosis is obtained through surgical excision and histopathological examination. We report a very rare case of abdominal LAM in a young female patient. A thorough literature review of this rare condition with emphasis on gynecologic implications will be presented. The patient was

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare, benign neoplasm occurring in 3(rd) to 5(th) decade of life that can be mistaken both clinically and on microscopy for several other conditions, it should be included as a differential diagnosis for any vaginal mass. These lesions have a predilection for female pelvic soft tissues, slow in growth, and are characterized histologically by a predominantly myxoid stroma and an abundance of thin and thick walled vascular channels. This is a deep soft tissue tumor, which as the name suggests, may have a locally aggressive course. Most tumors occur in women and are la

Juvenile granulosa cell tumors of the ovary (JGCTs) are a rare form of neoplasm that makes up less than 5% of ovarians tumors in childhood and adolescence. About 90% are diagnosed in stage I (FIGO) with a favorable prognosis, whereas those at higher stages have a less favorable outecome. The authors describe a juvenile granulosa cell tumor expressed by an early pseudopuberty occurring in a 6 year old child. Clinically, an endocrine syndrome was associated with a pelvic mass. Hyperoestrogenia and serum alphafoetoprotein level were biologically detected. Tumor was localized strictly to the ovary
