A flow injection analysis (FIA) method and the first sequential injection analysis (SIA) method for the determination of tiopronin in pharmaceuticals have been developed. Both utilize the one-step colour reaction involving the reduction of the Cu(II)-bathocuproine complex by tiopronin to the orange-coloured Cu(I)-bathocuproine complex with maximum absorbance at 483 nm. In this article, cytotoxicity, the mechanisms of cytotoxic activity, genotoxicity, and interaction with DNA and proteins, of two Cu(II) complexes with a salicylaldehyde derivative (4-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde) and α-diimine (2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)) are reported. A gelatinolytic metalloproteinase (gMP) from red sea bream ( Pagrus major ) skeletal muscle was highly purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation and column chromatographies including (diethylamino)ethyl (DEAE)-Sephacel, phenyl-Sepharose, and gelatin-Sepharose. Purified gMP revealed two bands with molecular masses of 52 and 55 kDa as estimated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) under reducing conditions. Biosensors based on DNA and DNA-carbon nanotubes film immobilized at the surface of a screen-printed carbon electrode were used for simple in vitro tests of chemical toxicity. The damage to DNA caused by tin(II) and arsenic(III) compounds as components of specific reaction media was evaluated by means of an electrochemical DNA marker, [Co(phen)3](3+), as the portion of original dsDNA which survives an incubation of the biosensor in the cleavage medium. The results were confirmed by the electrically heated electrode and by the measurement of the DNA guanine moiety signal.

Nitric oxide gas evolution from nitrite was studied in vitro in three rice soils by gas chromatography. Autoclaved soils showed an NO evolution when supplemented with nitrite. Herein, three new 8-hydroxyquinoline zinc(II)-based complexes (QhBr1-QhBr3) were synthesized and characterized using 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives (H-QBr1 and H-QBr2) and o-phenanthroline-based derivatives (pyr1-pyr3). Herein we describe the facile synthesis of new N-doped carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) obtained from 1,10-phenanthroline by the solvothermal method. Characterization of CNPs were carried out with transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), UV-vis absorption spectra, and luminescence spectra. A dermonecrotic metalloproteinase (CcD-II) was isolated from C. cerastes venom. Venom fractionation was performed using three chromatographic steps (molecular exclusion on Sephadex G-75, ion-exchange on DEAE-Sephadex A-50, and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography on C8 column).
