The study aimed at introducing a digital method of locating the osteotomy position of the zygomatic arch during surgery and analyze the accuracy of this method. Patients with a prominent zygomatic bone who underwent zygomatic arch osteotomy and reduction in the orthognathic surgery department of our hospital were selected. Tessier 7 clefts are a rare congenital anomaly, usually surgically repaired with Z-plasty or other reconstructive methods, although undesirable scars may result. We present a review of the literature and a case of unilateral Tessier 7 cleft repaired with a novel reconstruction technique using a combined Z-plasty and geometric broken line closure (GBLC) to camouflage and irregularize the otherwise linear scar. We present this case to expand the armamentarium of surgical options to address Tessier 7 clefts and to review techniques for repair.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of orbit-sparing palatomaxillary defects requires consideration of globe dystopia, orbital volume, eyelid position and function, and the nasolacrimal system to preserve and optimize vision, globe protection, and appearance. We describe the fundamentals of orbital and eyelid anatomy, common orbital complications related to palatomaxillary reconstruction, and preemptive and corrective surgical techniques to be utilized during and after globe-sparing palatomaxillary reconstruction.
METHODS: We present a review of the literature supplemented by clinical case examples.

Amniotic membrane (AM) transplantation has been used successfully worldwide in ophthalmology plastic surgery for over 100 years. This review presents the histological and the immunohistochemical features of AM compared to those of the conjunctiva and discusses the techniques of processing and preservation, its mechanism of action in ocular reconstruction, its clinical ophthalmic indications, but also advantages and limitations of grafting with this biomaterial.
