A protein covalently bound to ColE1 DNA.

ColE1 DNA was isolated from Escherichia coli as a relaxation complex of supercoiled DNA and proteins. Treatment of the complex with either protein-denaturing agents (SDS, phenol etc.) or proteolytic enzymes converted the supercoiled DNA to an open-circular form (relaxation). The relaxation complex was separately labelled in vivo with [3H]Leu or [14C]Leu, [35S]Met or (32P)phosphate and extensively purified. Complete hydrolysis of the relaxed complex with DNase I and P1 nuclease produced a 36-kDa protein which, we believe, is covalently bound to ColE1 DNA. On the other hand, the relaxed complex

[Characteristics of the Effect of Cestodes Parasitizing the Fish Intestine on the Activity of the Host Proteinases].

The activity and spectrum of proteinases in the intestines of host fishes change upon infestation with cestodes. Serine proteinases are found to make a greater contribution to the total proteolytic activity. The reduction of proteolytic activity is associated with adsorption of the enzymes of the host on the surface of cestodes, and the increase in the activity is caused by the injury of the intestinal mucosa by the attachment apparatuses of cestodes. The inhibition of proteainase activity indicates the possible participation of microbiota enzymes in protein hydrolyses.

Decoding of the Saltiness-Enhancing Peptides Derived from Walnut Meal Protein and Evaluation of Their Mechanism of Interaction with ENaC/TMC4 Receptors.

Walnut meal protein hydrolysates showing a significant saltiness-enhancing effect were obtained through single-factor optimization and ultrafiltration. An integrated virtual screening strategy was employed to identify eight candidate saltiness-enhancing peptides, which were then evaluated for their saltiness-enhancing effect via sensory evaluations, electronic tongue, and salivary aldosterone. Incorporating the peptides AVEFDKWAGP, GPEHDW, and DDPRFT into NaCl solutions (3, 6, and 9 mg/mL) enhanced saltiness intensity by 19.79 ± 4.30 to 91.18 ± 10.00% and extended saltiness duration by 20.00 ±…

Identification and Characterization of Edible Cricket Peptides on Hypertensive and Glycemic In Vitro Inhibition and Their Anti-Inflammatory Activity on RAW 264.7 Macrophage Cells.

Recent studies continue to demonstrate the potential of edible insects as a protein base to obtain bioactive peptides applicable for functional food development. This study aimed at identifying antihypertensive, anti-glycemic, and anti-inflammatory peptides derived from the in vitro gastrointestinal digests of cricket protein hydrolysates. After sequential fractionation, the protein digest subfraction containing the lowest molecular weight (<0.5 kDa), hydrophobic (C18) and cationic peptides (IEX) was found responsible for the most bioactivity. The cationic peptide fraction significantly reduce…
