In this cross-sectional study, we examined the relations between perceived LGBTQ+ community support for psychotherapy and both willingness to seek counseling and use of mental health services in the past year among 721 sexual minority persons. This paper describes recruitment challenges and lessons learned in conducting a randomized controlled exercise trial in the absence of direct access to a clinical population. One-hundred thirty-five wheelchair users were enrolled in a home and community-based intervention to promote exercise adoption and maintenance. This article examines the hostile public reactions of a community that, through a state policy to consolidate all long-term behavioral health services, was to become the site of the state's only mental hospital.
