Treatment of sleep disordered breathing in congestive heart failure.

In patients with congestive heart failure, sleep disordered breathing occurs commonly and is associated with an increased mortality. In addition to central sleep apnea (Cheyne-Stokes respiration), obstructive sleep apnea is more prevalent in patients with congestive heart failure than in the general population. As a result, a number of treatments have been investigated, with varying results. While many therapies may improve the severity of sleep disordered breathing, only positive pressure ventilation has been shown to improve cardiac function. Newer forms of positive pressure ventilation, suc

[Results of the evaluation of nasal respiration in maxillo-mandibular malocclusion in children. Apropos of 53 cases].

The authors measured nasal resistance in 53 children aged 5 to 13 years treated for bite disorders. Comparison of the results with a normal control group of children of the same age demonstrated that major nasal incompetence was 4 times more common in the group of children with orthodontic abnormalities. Nasal incompetence with permanent buccal respiration leads to disordered growth and modification of the morphogenesis of the naso-ethmoid-maxillary unit. Adaptation of deglutition and phonation to these new conditions produces modifications in the tension of the velo-pharyngo-facial and pharyn

The molybdate transport protein ModA regulates nitrate reductase activity to increase the intestinal colonization and extraintestinal dissemination of Klebsiella pneumoniae in the inflamed gut.

The mammalian intestine is a major site of colonization and a starting point of severe infections by Klebsiella pneumoniae. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an inflammatory disorder of the gut, and host-derived nitrate in IBD confers a luminal growth advantage upon Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium through nitrate respiration in the inflamed gut. However, the impact of nitrate on the growth and pathogenicity of K. pneumoniae in this microenvironment is poorly understood. In this study, we used oral administration of dextran sodium sulphate to induce IBD in mouse models. We then an

Attenuation of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress, Impaired Calcium Homeostasis, and Altered Bioenergetic Functions in MPP+-Exposed SH-SY5Y Cells Pretreated with Rutin.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder that affects approximately 1% of the population over the age of 65 years. While treatment options for PD are limited, reports show that plant-derived bioactive compounds such as rutin possess numerous pharmacological benefits, including antioxidant and antiapoptotic activities. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of rutin in MPP+-treated SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells, an established cell model of PD. Our findings reveal increased concentrations of Ca2+ and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress as well as impaired mitochon
