[Clinical applications of transcrestal around detached sinus floor elevation technique using osteotomes and sequential drills with stops].

Sinus floor elevation was needed in 11 patients having 15 implant sites with the residual bone height (RBH) was less than 10 mm in the posterior maxillary region from Feb to May 2017. The RBH ranged from 3.10 to 8.34 mm [averaged (6.18±1.60) mm]. RBH<6 mm was observed in 40% implant sites (6 implant sites) and RBH≥6 mm was observed in 60% implant sites (9 implant sites). The thickness of the sinus floor membrane correspond to the implant site measured by cone beam CT (CBCT) ranged from 0.50 to 4.24 mm [averaged (1.21±0.92) mm]. Sequential drills with stops were used to perforate the cortical b

The use of mineralized bone allograft as a single grafting material in maxillary sinus lifting with severely atrophied alveolar ridge (1-3 mm) and immediately inserted dental implants. A 3- up to 8-year retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: The primary aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of mineralized bone allograft alone in sinus floor augmentation with simultaneous implant placement in cases with severe atrophy of the residual maxillary bone (bone height < 4 mm). METHODS: Thirty-five dental implants were placed in 29 patients who underwent sinus augmentation via traditional lateral window technique from 2008 to 2013. Patients with residual alveolar height between 1 and 3 mm at the site of implantation were included in the study. The height of residual bone was initially estimated by plain panoramic X-ray …

Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Versus Deproteinized Bovine Bone Mineral for Sinus Floor Elevation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Sinus floor elevation using deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) is widely used as a grafting material to promote new bone formation. Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) has also been utilized to enhance vertical and horizontal bone augmentation prior to dental implant placement. Both materials are considered viable options for sinus augmentation. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the histological results of BCP compared to DBBM. A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials (CENTRAL) was conducted from March 2025 to

[Atrophic ridge augmentation using intra-oral onlay bone grafts--expanding the limits].

Placement of an endosseous implant requires sufficient bone volume for complete bone coverage. There is a growing use of intraoral block bone grafts from intraoral sources. The use of bone from the mandibular symphysis, retromolar area, mandibular ramus, and the maxillary tuberosity can serve as a good treatment alternative for alveolar ridge augmentation with a high success rate for long span augmentation, up to complete jaw augmentation or extensive bone reconstruction. The intraoral block bone graft procedure can be combined with other surgical procedures, such as sinus lift elevation or na

The Repair of Large Maxillary Sinus Membrane Perforations with a Collagen Membrane Stabilized with Tacks on the Mesial and Lateral Walls: A Technical Note.

Sinus membrane perforations are among the most commonly reported intraoperative complications encountered during maxillary sinus floor elevation procedures performed via the lateral window approach. Large perforations (> 10 mm) can pose a major clinical challenge and often result in failed bone augmentation and poorer long-term implant survival. Because of these challenges, even a highly skilled oral implant surgeon with advanced training in implantology who faces such perforations may abandon grafting procedures in favor of a reentry approach. This article describes an approach to managing la

Guided Lateral Window Osteotomy Using Dynamic Navigation for Maxillary Sinus Augmentation: A Novel Technique.

The size and the position of the sinus antrostomy play a key role in making sinus grafting surgery more predictable and effective with less complications. A cone beam computed tomography and intraoral scan of the maxilla were taken for a patient who is missing maxillary first molar tooth with limited residual bone. Data were exported to the dynamic navigation (DN) system software. Sinus lateral window osteotomy position and dimensions were determined and planned using four 1.5 mm diameter implants placed on the maxillary sinus lateral wall. The osteotomy was initiated following the planned fou

A novel lineage of osteoprogenitor cells with dual epithelial and mesenchymal properties govern maxillofacial bone homeostasis and regeneration after MSFL.

Bone regeneration originates from proliferation and differentiation of osteoprogenitors via either endochondral or intramembranous ossification; and the regeneration capacities decline with age and estrogen loss. Maxillary sinus floor lifting (MSFL) is a commonly used surgical procedure for guiding bone regeneration in maxilla. Radiographic analysis of 1210 clinical cases of maxilla bone regeneration after MSFL revealed that the intrasinus osteogenic efficacy was independent of age and gender, however; and this might be related to the Schneiderian membrane that lines the sinus cavity. The Effect of Hyperbaric Oxygen on Bone Healing Efficiency After Maxillary Sinus Lateral Augmentation Using Xenograft: An In Vivo Pilot Study on Histomorphometric Analysis.

It was hypothesized that hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) could increase bone healing efficiency according to a protocol with a special window of healing time when maxillary sinus lateral augmentation is performed with only xenograft. The histomorphometric efficiency of HBO on the maxillary sinus lateral augmentation was examined by designing five different in vivo healing periods. Five patients receiving maxillary sinus lateral augmentation with xenograft each received a different treatment healing protocol: 6 weeks natural healing (control [Ctl]), 5 weeks with HBO (T1), 6 weeks with HBO (T2), 9 weeks

[Development of tilted implant for free end of maxillary posterior teeth].

Vertical bone insufficiency in the maxillary posterior teeth is a common clinical situation. At present, the bone insufficiency in the maxillary posterior teeth is mainly overcome by bone grafting through maxillary sinus floor elevation. Compared with traditional axial implantation, tilted implantation can better avoid bone grafting, reduce complications, shorten the treatment cycle, reduce the treatment cost for patients, and gradually be promoted in clinical settings. This article reviews the concept, biomechanics, clinical evaluation, and digital trend of tilted implants of maxillary poster
