The study examined how emotional insecurity and social support correlate with drug use among university students in Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods approach and purposive sampling, the research involved 513 participants: 486 students (221 males and 265 females) and 27 lecturers (21 males and 6 females). The quantitative data were analysed using linear regression and the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, while the qualitative data were explored through thematic analysis. The findings revealed a significant association between social support and drug use; students with limited socia

Social media has rapidly transformed communication, education, and professional networking within graduate medical education. Increasingly, residency and fellowship applicants rely on social media platforms to evaluate training programs, particularly to gain insights into program culture, trainee experiences, and educational environments that may not be easily conveyed through traditional program websites. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated the adoption of social media by both applicants and training programs, highlighting its growing role in recruitment and outreach. Gastroenterology f

Loneliness is a growing concern among aging migrant populations, with significant implications for their well-being and social integration. This study examines how first-generation Turkish labor migrants in Germany engage with third places such as parks, religious sites, neighborhood centers, and cafés, and how these everyday settings shape their experiences of social connection and loneliness in later life. Drawing on mobile ethnography and go-along interviews with 27 older adults in the Nuremberg metropolitan region in Germany, the study explores how third places are used, adapted, or withdr

BACKGROUND: Many countries have developed, or are developing, national strategies aimed at reducing the harms associated with hepatitis C infection. Making these strategies relevant to the vast majority of those affected by hepatitis C requires a more complete understanding of the short and longer term impacts of infection. We used a systematic approach to scope the literature to determine what is currently known about the health and psychosocial impacts of hepatitis C along the trajectory from exposure to ongoing chronic infection, and to identify what knowledge gaps remain.

OBJECTIVES: Participation in organised extracurricular social activities (OESAs) can provide wide-ranging positive developmental benefits for children. This study investigated whether participation and experiences differ for children aged 4- to 12-years with a developmental language disorder (DLD) compared to their typical language developing (TLD) peers.
METHODS: Parents of children with DLD (n = 18) and those of TLD peers (n = 21) reflected on their child's participation and experiences in OESAs.
RESULTS: Results demonstrated that parents of children with DLD reported engagement in a simil

Extended Reality (XR) technologies offer growing potential to support accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. While XR has been widely applied in rehabilitation, its role in assisting daily tasks remains underexplored. This study aims to systematically examine how XR can enhance autonomy and inclusion in everyday life for people with disabilities. A systematic review was conducted using PRISMA methodology. Peer-reviewed articles published through August 2025 were selected from Scopus, IEEE, Embase, and PMC. Inclusion criteria focused on XR interventions aimed at assistin

Male hooded Lister rats were cross-fostered at birth (day 0) and reared in litters of eight. Within each litter, one pup was treated with each dose of lorazepam (0.25 or 1.25 mg/kg) and one was treated with the placebo vehicle. The pups received daily subcutaneous injections between postnatal days 7 and 21 inclusive. Starting on day 70 the animals were subjected to four tests of exploratory and social behavior: Open Field, Holeboard, Social Interaction and Home-Cage Aggression. The drug-treated animals showed an increase in submissive behavior, particularly when intruding into another animal's

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV (WLWH) experience numerous social and structural barriers to stable housing, with substantial implications for access to health care services. This study is the first to apply the Canadian Definition of Homelessness (CDOH), an inclusive national guideline, to investigate the prevalence and correlates of housing status among WLWH in Metro Vancouver, Canada.
METHODS: Our study utilized data from a longitudinal open cohort of cisgender and trans WLWH aged 14 years and older, in 2010-2019. Cross-sectional descriptive statistics of the prevalence of housing status

Embedding intersectional equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in anatomy education is essential to reflect the growing diversity of student populations, support all learners, and prepare graduates for a more inclusive, socially responsive global workforce. Anatomical textbooks and models have typically focused on white, cis-gender, able-bodied individuals who perpetuates biases and underrepresentation, impacting learners' professional development. We embedded five workshops in the junior honors BSc anatomy curriculum, which all adopted an intersectional EDI approach. These were strongly anch

Inclusive Education emphasizes equal opportunities for all students by reducing or eliminating barriers that hinder participation and learning, encompassing cultural, social, practical, and political dimensions. In this context, the development of positive attitudes towards disability is a key component for the success of inclusive educational practices, particularly in adapted physical education. Following a prior analysis of the impact of academic curricula on attitudes toward disability, the need to implement training programs focused on attitudes toward disability becomes evident. The aim

The ability of the public to remain psychologically resilient in the face of public health emergencies and disasters (such as the COVID-19 pandemic) is a key factor in the effectiveness of a national response to such events. Community resilience and social capital are often perceived as beneficial and ensuring that a community is socially and psychologically resilient may aid emergency response and recovery. This review presents a synthesis of literature which answers the following research questions: How are community resilience and social capital quantified in research?; What is the impact o

PURPOSE: This review aims to map and synthesise existing literature on how people with disability participate in the co-design of public built environments and what factors influence participant experiences and outcomes gained.
METHOD: The review employed Arksey and O'Malley's [1] methodology. Evidence was identified via a systematic search of peer-reviewed databases. Publications were included if they discussed participation of people with disability in the design of public built environments, were published between December 2006 and June 2025, and available in English.

Parents play a central role in supporting children experiencing gender dysphoria and in navigating decisions regarding social and medical transition. Despite this, parental perspectives remain underrepresented within the academic literature. This systematic review synthesized research examining how parents understand and interpret experiences of gender dysphoria during childhood and adolescence. Searches were conducted across multiple databases. Twenty-eight studies met the inclusion criteria. The literature consisted predominantly of qualitative studies and showed variation in recruitment met

While the inclusion of 'disability lived experience' is increasingly advocated for in research, policy and practice, its conceptualisation and application present significant challenges. This article, a collaborative effort by 16 individuals with diverse disabilities and expertise, critically examines the limitations inherent in the current usage. We argue that prevailing interpretations of 'lived experience' presume subjectivity and over-emphasise narratives of suffering, leading to tokenism and a false dichotomy between lived experience and professional or academic expertise. These issues ca

This article explores how hill tribe communities in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, engage with HIV prevention in the context of cultural complexity and marginalisation. Drawing on qualitative data from 29 semi-structured interviews and two participatory workshops, and informed by a modified social ecological framework, the research examines how individuals navigate risk and protection through informal knowledge networks, relational dynamics and constrained access to health services. Rather than depicting community members as passive or uninformed, the findings suggest active, contextually grou

INTRODUCTION: Multiple studies report sex and gender differences in Lewy body dementia (LBD); however, there is a paucity of research investigating social determinants associated with LBD.
METHODS: Participants with LBD (51 females, 79 males) and controls with similar age (64 females, 60 males) completed remote surveys assessing various social and demographic variables, and age at LBD onset for LBD group. Sex-stratified comparisons for LBD and control groups, and comparisons of females and males with LBD were done for social determinants. Sex differences for onset age were further analyzed wi
