UNLABELLED: Uveo-meningeal syndromes are any disorder characterized by the involvement of the uvea and the meninges. Choroidal melanocytes (HCMs) are melanin-producing cells in the vascular uvea of the human eye (iris, ciliary body and choroid). The healing process of ciliochoroidal (suprachoroidal, subscleral) hematomas was studied histopathologically in 75 eyes enucleated between 1 and 42 days following a traumatic incident. A review of 3706 consecutive patients with uveal melanoma revealed that 40 patients (1.1%) were age 20 years or younger at the time of diagnosis. The youngest patient was age 6 years but the majority of patients (78%) were between 15 and 20 years old. The tumor occurred in the iris in 5 cases (12%) and in the posterior uvea in 35 cases (88%). The ocular effects of intravitreally injected copper sulfate solutions were studied in New Zealand white rabbits. OBJECTIVE: To report a case of bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation (BDUMP) followed by massive unilateral uveal proliferation.
METHODS: Retrospective case report.
RESULTS: A 47-year-old female with history of metastatic ovarian carcinoma initially presented with bilateral vision loss and multifocal red patches on posterior poles consistent with BDUMP. Five years later, she presented with bilateral neovascular glaucoma and unilateral iris and ciliary body mass concerning for malignancy. Enucleation revealed diffuse uveal growth involving almost the entirety of the uveal tract.

A case of multilobed malignant melanoma with a haemorrhagic retinal detachment which mimicked a postoperative choroidal detachment is described. Because the lesion showed no resolution six weeks after cataract surgery a tumour evaluation was undertaken. The diagnosis was established with a positive radioactive phosphorus uptake (32P) test and biopsy of the intraocular mass. A suggested approach to the diagnosis in such difficult cases is proposed.
