Beliefs in Misinformation About COVID-19 and the Russian Invasion of Ukraine Are Linked: Evidence From a Nationally Representative Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Detrimental effects of misinformation were observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Presently, amid Russia's military aggression in Ukraine, another wave of misinformation is spreading on the web and impacting our daily lives, with many citizens and politicians embracing Russian propaganda narratives. Despite the lack of an objective connection between these 2 societal issues, anecdotal observations suggest that supporters of misinformation regarding COVID-19 (BM-C) have also adopted misinformation about the war in Ukraine (BM-U) while sharing similar media use patterns and political

From Evidence to Practice: Implementing the 2026 Canadian Clinical Practice Guideline Update on Vaccination-Related Distress in the Dutch National Immunization Program.

Vaccination-related distress (VRD) encompasses a range of stress reactions associated with vaccination, including pain, needle fear, and stress. VRD is a significant barrier to immunization, contributing to up to 8% of vaccination refusals in children and even higher rates in under-vaccinated populations. Beyond immediate discomfort, VRD can lead to long-term psychological and physical consequences, underscoring the need for effective VRD-mitigation strategies. The updated knowledge synthesis and clinical practice guideline by the HELPinKids&Adults team provides evidence-based recommendations …

Perceptions of oral cholera vaccine and reasons for full, partial and non-acceptance during a humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.

Oral cholera vaccination (OCV) campaigns were conducted from February to April 2014 among internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the midst of a humanitarian crisis in Juba, South Sudan. IDPs were predominantly members of the Nuer ethnic group who had taken refuge in United Nations bases following the eruption of violence in December 2013. The OCV campaigns, which were conducted by United Nations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at the request of the Ministry of Health, reached an estimated 85-96% of the target population. As no previous studies on OCV acceptance have been conducted in

Autoimmune myasthenia gravis after COVID-19 in a triple vaccinated patient.

Despite a well characterized mechanism, myasthenia gravis (MG) remains a dilemma in terms of etiology. Several case reports and series of cases suggest a potential cause-effect relation between SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination and MG. We present the case of an autoimmune MG occurring post Covid-19 in an elderly male, vaccinated with three doses of the BNT162b2/Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The 78-year-old male was admitted in the Neurology Clinic in early November 2021 with double vision, bilateral ptosis, dysphonia and dysphagia, 16 days after receiving a third dose of the BNT162b2/Pfizer-BioNT

Schools as potential vaccination venue for vaccines outside regular EPI schedule: results from a school census in Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Vaccines are the most effective public health intervention. Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) provides routine vaccination in developing countries. However, vaccines that cannot be given in EPI schedule such as typhoid fever vaccine need alternative venues. In areas where school enrolment is high, schools provide a cost effective opportunity for vaccination. Prior to start of a school-based typhoid vaccination program, interviews were conducted with staff of educational institutions in two townships of Karachi, Pakistan to collect baseline information about the school system a

Role of universal and targeted recommendations for vaccines for sexually transmitted infections in the USA, China and Indonesia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Vaccines for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are in development and little is known about their future acceptance. The type of recommendations released by National Immunisation Technical Advisory Groups could influence vaccine uptake. This study aims to understand how universal and targeted wording affects theoretical acceptance to vaccines for four common STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and genital herpes) in the USA, China and Indonesia. We also aim to understand how universal and targeted wording may influence acceptance among those who engage in high-risk sexual be

Trust in official information as a key predictor of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance: evidence from a Czech longitudinal survey study.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy (CVH) has become a critical public health issue, with attitudes toward vaccines emerging as a broader social issue. Public debates surrounding vaccines have expanded beyond health considerations to include issues of trust, misinformation, and societal values, making CVH a complex challenge that requires multifaceted solutions. Analyzing the various determinants of CVH is crucial for developing targeted strategies to improve vaccine acceptance in specific countries and to better prepare for future public health crises. However, no study to date has evaluat

Ensuring preparedness for potential poliomyelitis outbreaks: Recommendations for the US poliovirus vaccine stockpile from the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

Paralytic poliomyelitis was once endemic in the United States; however, because of high vaccination levels, the last case of wild disease occurred in 1979. Although worldwide polio eradication may be achieved in the near future, the presence of undervaccinated children in urban areas and among groups who refuse vaccination creates an outbreak risk, should importation of wild virus occur. In 1999, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) be used for routine immunization of the US population and that oral poliovirus vaccine (OP

Threat of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in Pakistan: The Need for Measures to Neutralize Misleading Narratives.

Immediately after declaring COVID-19 as a pandemic, numerous wild conspiracy theories sprouted through social media. Pakistan is quite vulnerable to such conspiracy narratives and has experienced failures of polio vaccination programs because of such claims. Recently, two well-known political figures raised conspiracy theories against COVID-19 vaccines in Pakistan, stating that COVID-19 is a grand illusion and a conspiracy against Muslim countries. This theory is much discussed in the local community, supporting COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. We urge healthcare authorities in Pakistan to take nec
