BACKGROUND: We describe the long-term outcome of repair of partial atrioventricular septal defect by determining the rates of survival, reoperation, and occurrence of left atrioventricular valve regurgitation, left atrioventricular valve stenosis, left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, and arrhythmia.

From 1971-1981, 18 patients with discrete subaortic stenosis were treated surgically at the Medical University of South Carolina. Left ventricular outflow obstruction after transcatheter mitral valve replacement is a life-threatening complication. We report a case of a 68-year old female with early degeneration of a transcatheter aortic valve and severely calcified mitral valve stenosis who was considered inoperable by a multidisciplinary heart team and referred for transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement. Our aim is to report the planning, procedural aspects, and management of device-related left-ventricular outflow tract obstruction after transcatheter double valve replacement.

This report describes a 1(1/2)-year-old boy who succumbed to acute obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract by a cardiac rhabdomyoma. He was admitted to have a transient loss of consciousness episode evaluated. A mobile intracardiac mass obstructing the left ventricular outflow tract and protruding into the aortic root during systole was detected by transthoracic echocardiography. At autopsy, it was confirmed to be a rhabdomyoma.

Pre- and postoperative cardiac catheterization data and cinenangiocardiograms of 82 patients who survived the Mustard operation for transposition of the great arteries (TGA) were reviewed. The post-operative catheterizations were performed 20 days to 10 years after operation (mean 2.5 years). Forty-six patients (56%) had no or insignificant associated cardiac lesions, whereas 36 (44%) had ventricular septal defect, pulmonary stenosis, or both, and required surgical intervention at the time of the Mustard operation. Postoperatively, 11 patients (13%) had significant systemic venous obstruction.

A 23-year-old female of Taussig-Bing heart with antero-posterior relation of the great arteries was underwent Patrick-McGoon's intraventricular rerouting at 6 years old of age. The left ventricular outflow obstruction (peak pressure gradient of 100 mmHg) developed, and severe aortic valve regurgitation following bacterial endocarditis was noted. The conversion to Rastelli's type operation and aortic valve replacement were performed successfully at 23 years old of age.
