OBJECTIVE: Contrast-enhanced fat-suppressed T1 weighted (T1W) two-dimensional (2D) turbo spin echo (TSE) and magnetization-prepared gradient echo (MPRAGE) sequences with water excitation are routinely obtained to evaluate orbit pathology. However, these sequences can be marred by artefacts. The radial-volume-interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequence is a motion-robust fat-suppressed T1W sequence which has demonstrated value in paediatric and body imaging. We report the MR imaging findings of an unusually large fluid collection, so-called giant reservoir, around an Ahmed glaucoma valve implant that caused progressive proptosis in a patient with posttraumatic glaucoma. Although other cystic lesions of the juxtalacrimal area of the orbit, such as dermoid cyst, can present similar imaging findings, the characteristic morphology and location should lead the radiologist to the correct nature of this cystic lesion.

A 76-year-old patient presented with a recurrent mass of a malignant chondrosarcoma in the right infratemporal fossa and in the left maxillary sinus with orbital invasion. The patient was treated with a palliative intention with MR-guided laser-induced thermotherapy using a modified applicator technique. Following treatment clinical symptoms improved and MRI revealed complete laser-induced tumor necrosis.
