Caveolin-1 Promoted Collateral Vessel Formation in Patients With Moyamoya Disease.

BACKGROUND: Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) plays pivotal roles in the endothelial function and angiogenesis postischemia. Moyamoya disease (MMD) is characterized by progressive artery stenosis with unknown etiology. We aim to determine whether serum Cav-1 levels of patients with MMD were associated with collateral vessel formation after bypass surgery. METHODS: We studied serum Cav-1 levels of 130 patients with MMD (16 with RNF213 p.R4810K mutation and 114 without RNF213 p.R4810K mutation), 15 patients with acute stroke, and 33 healthy controls. Cerebral perfusion and collateral circulation were evaluate

Effectiveness of a flow confirmation study of a central venous port of the upper arm versus the chest wall in patients with suspected system-related mechanical complications.

BACKGROUND: If mechanical complications associated with a central venous port (CVP) system are suspected, evaluation with a flow confirmation study (FCS) using fluorescence fluoroscopy or digital subtraction angiography should be performed. Evaluations of mechanical complications related to CVP of the chest wall using FCS performed via the subclavian vein have been reported. However, the delayed complications of a CVP placed in the upper arm have not been sufficiently evaluated in a large population. We evaluated the effectiveness of FCS of CVPs implanted following percutaneous cannulation of

Role of Transluminal Balloon Angioplasty for the Treatment of Vasospasm Due to Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage: A Multicentric Indian Experience.

Background Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (aSAH) is a complex and critical neurological condition associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Apart from the initial insult due to the aneurysmal rupture itself, re-bleeding and severe cerebral vasospasm are some of the complications of aSAH that result in overall poor outcomes. Cerebral vasospasm in post-aSAH can result in delayed ischaemic neurological deficits. In the absence of timely interventions, it can lead to grave consequences for the patient. Management of cerebral vasospasm has been evolving over the years to prevent mor

A Case Series and Literature Review of Vertebral Artery Stump Syndrome.

PURPOSE: Stump syndrome refers to cerebral ischaemic symptoms caused by an embolus from a previously occluded ipsilateral artery that occludes a down-stream artery. It can be divided into two types: carotid stump syndrome and vertebral artery stump syndrome (VASS). At present, there is limited clinical experience with VASS. We aimed to propose a more precise diagnostic standard for VASS, and to share our experience with handling this condition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively collected data of patients who were treated with endovascular thrombectomy in the stroke centre of the First

Localization of macroscopically undetectable intramedullary hematoma by intraoperative epidural motor evoked potential.

INTRODUCTION: Intramedullary hematoma is an uncommon, serious neurological disease, representing a diagnostic challenge. The preferred treatment is surgical. In most of the cases the lesion can be identified macroscopically. Otherwise, finding the optimal place to perform myelotomy is demanding. Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring plays an important role in preventing surgical complications, but its versatility for localization has not been studied so far. CASE REPORT: The present case report describes a 17-year-old patient with flaccid right inferior monoparesis (later paraparesis),

Multicentre Evaluation of an Extra Low Dose Protocol to Reduce Radiation Exposure in Superior Mesenteric Artery Stenting.

OBJECTIVE: Radiation dose in mesenteric stenting (MS) remains under evaluated. Yet, MS can lead to high levels of radiation mainly because lateral angulation is needed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an extra low dose protocol (ELDP) to reduce radiation exposure in MS. METHODS: From November 2017 to November 2019, all patients presenting with either acute or chronic atherosclerotic mesenteric ischaemia treated by antegrade MS using either fixed or mobile imaging systems in three university hospitals were included. In November 2018, an ELDP including ≤3 frames/s fluorosc

Ultrasound-Guided Fibrin Glue Injection for Treatment of Iatrogenic Femoral Pseudoaneurysms.

INTRODUCTION: Arterial pseudoaneurysms (PSAs) are the most common access site complication following transarterial catheter intervention. Ultrasound-guided injection of thrombogenic substances into perfused arterial PSAs followed by compression therapy is a well-established and less invasive treatment option than surgical repair. Different agents are available to induce thrombosis including thrombin and a fibrin-based tissue glue, which is used as first-line treatment at our institution. This paper deals with our experience using ultrasound-guided fibrin glue injection (UGFI). MATERIALS AND M

MRI predictive score of pial vascularization of supratentorial intracranial meningioma.

OBJECTIVE: Meningiomas are highly vascularized tumors which may recruit pial blood supply. Pial supply complicates tumor treatment in numerous ways. The objective of this study was to establish a reliable MRI-based diagnostic score to predict the existence of pial blood supply in supratentorial intracranial meningiomas and then correlate the score with clinical and surgical outcomes and histopathological findings. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of supratentorial histologically proven meningiomas in our institution from 2010 to 2018. A score was built based on MRI criteria and

Flow Diversion of Posterior Circulation Cerebral Aneurysms: A Single-Institution Series of 59 Cases.

BACKGROUND: Posterior circulation cerebral aneurysms are at higher risk of rupture and are more symptomatic than those in the anterior circulation. Existing treatments carry significant morbidity. Early reports of flow diversion for posterior circulation aneurysms have suggested high complication and low occlusion rates. OBJECTIVE: To report safety and efficacy of flow diversion with the pipeline embolization device (ev3, Medtronic Inc, Dublin, Ireland) for aneurysms located throughout the posterior circulation. METHODS: A prospective, institutional review board-approved database was analyze

Is right-sided ligamentum teres hepatis always accompanied by left-sided gallbladder? Case reports and literature review.

Right-sided ligamentum teres (RSLT) hepatis is a rare anatomical variant in which the fetal umbilical vein is connected to the right paramedian trunk of the portal vein. Despite its rarity, it is crucial for surgeons and intervention specialists because of its frequent association with intrahepatic vascular and biliary anomalies. Inattention to these anomalies before intervention, especially living-donor liver transplantation, can have life-threatening consequences. The relationship between gallbladder location and RSLT is still controversial, with RSLT regarded as one of the critical features
