Artificial Intelligence in Burn and Wound Care: Image Analysis, Prediction, and Clinical Integration.

Burn injuries and chronic wounds impose a substantial and growing global health and economic burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and among aging populations with diabetes, vascular disease, and immobility. Conventional wound assessment depends heavily on visual inspection, manual measurements, and clinician experience, leading to variability in burn-depth estimation, wound sizing, and prognostication. Artificial intelligence, especially deep learning-based computer vision, has emerged as a promising approach to provide objective, reproducible, and scalable evaluation of bu

Benchmark-Driven Clinical Decision Framework for Multi-Class Middle Ear Disease Diagnosis: Superiority of Swin Transformer in Accuracy and Stability.

Background/Objectives: The variable accuracy of middle ear disease diagnosis based on oto-endoscopy underscores the need for improved decision support. Although convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are currently a mainstay of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD), their constraints in global feature integration persist. We therefore systematically benchmarked state-of-the-art CNNs and Transformers to establish a performance baseline. Beyond this benchmark, our primary contribution is the development of a probability-guided Top-K clinical decision framework that balances high accuracy with complete ca

Role of artificial intelligence in the detection and characterization of gastrointestinal premalignant and early malignant lesions.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the field of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, a technology that relies heavily on images and optical data. Precancerous lesions and early cancers of the GI tract can be subtle and easily missed even on high-definition endoscopy and chromoendoscopy. The advancements in machine learning and deep learning led to the development of computer-aided models of high performance in image analysis. The convolutional neural networks of these models are trained to analyze large datasets of endoscopic images through the supervised learning approach. Their util

A multicentre study to evaluate the diagnostic performance of a novel CAD software, DecXpert, for radiological diagnosis of tuberculosis in the northern Indian population.

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of mortality among infectious diseases globally. Effectively managing TB requires early identification of individuals with TB disease. Resource-constrained settings often lack skilled professionals for interpreting chest X-rays (CXRs) used in TB diagnosis. To address this challenge, we developed "DecXpert" a novel Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) software solution based on deep neural networks for early TB diagnosis from CXRs, aiming to detect subtle abnormalities that may be overlooked by human interpretation alone. This study was conducted on the largest

Deep learning classification of active tuberculosis lung zones wise manifestations using chest X-rays: a multi label approach.

Chest X-rays are the most economically viable diagnostic imaging test for active pulmonary tuberculosis screening despite the high sensitivity and low specificity when interpreted by clinicians or radiologists. Computer aided detection (CAD) algorithms, especially convolution based deep learning architecture, have been proposed to facilitate the automation of radiography imaging modalities. Deep learning algorithms have found success in classifying various abnormalities in lung using chest X-ray. We fine-tuned, validated and tested EfficientNetB4 architecture and utilized the transfer learning

A comprehensive study on the multi-class cervical cancer diagnostic prediction on pap smear images using a fusion-based decision from ensemble deep convolutional neural network.

The diagnosis of cervical dysplasia, carcinoma in situ and confirmed carcinoma cases is more easily perceived by commercially available and current research-based decision support systems when the scenario of pathologists to patient ratio is small. The treatment modalities for such diagnosis rely exclusively on precise identification of dysplasia stages as followed by The Bethesda System. The classification based on The Bethesda System is a multiclass problem, which is highly relevant and vital. Reliance on image interpretation, when done manually, introduces inter-observer variability and mak

GastroFuse-Net: an ensemble deep learning framework designed for gastrointestinal abnormality detection in endoscopic images.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have received substantial attention as a highly effective tool for analyzing medical images, notably in interpreting endoscopic images, due to their capacity to provide results equivalent to or exceeding those of medical specialists. This capability is particularly crucial in the realm of gastrointestinal disorders, where even experienced gastroenterologists find the automatic diagnosis of such conditions using endoscopic pictures to be a challenging endeavor. Currently, gastrointestinal findings in medical diagnosis are primarily determined by manual inspe

Classification of Interstitial Lung Abnormality Patterns with an Ensemble of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks.

Subtle interstitial changes in the lung parenchyma of smokers, known as Interstitial Lung Abnormalities (ILA), have been associated with clinical outcomes, including mortality, even in the absence of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). Although several methods have been proposed for the automatic identification of more advanced Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) patterns, few have tackled ILA, which likely precedes the development ILD in some cases. In this context, we propose a novel methodology for automated identification and classification of ILA patterns in computed tomography (CT) images. The

Performance testing of several classifiers for differentiating obstructive lung diseases based on texture analysis at high-resolution computerized tomography (HRCT).

Machine classifiers have been used to automate quantitative analysis and avoid intra-inter-reader variability in previous studies. The selection of an appropriate classification scheme is important for improving performance based on the characteristics of the data set. This paper investigated the performance of several machine classifiers for differentiating obstructive lung diseases using texture analysis on various ROI (region of interest) sizes. 265 high-resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) images were taken from 92 subjects. On each image, two experienced radiologists selected ROIs wi

Parallel man-machine training in development of EEG-based cursor control.

A new parallel man-machine training approach to brain-computer interface (BCI) succeeded through a unique application of machine learning methods. The BCI system could train users to control an animated cursor on the computer screen by voluntary electroencephalogram (EEG) modulation. Our BCI system requires only two to four electrodes, and has a relatively short training time for both the user and the machine. Moving the cursor in one dimension, our subjects were able to hit 100% of randomly selected targets, while in two dimensions, accuracies of approximately 63% and 76% was achieved with ou

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: For the planning of surgical procedures involving the bony reconstruction of the mandible, the autologous iliac crest graft, along with the fibula graft, has become established as a preferred donor region. While computer-assisted planning methods are increasingly gaining importance, the necessary preparation of geometric data based on CT imaging remains largely a manual process. The aim of this work was to develop and test a method for the automated segmentation of the iliac crest for subsequent reconstruction planning. METHODS: A total of 1,398 datasets with manual

Material depth reconstruction method of multi-energy X-ray images using neural network.

With the advent of technology, multi-energy X-ray imaging is promising technique that can reduce the patient's dose and provide functional imaging. Two-dimensional photon-counting detector to provide multi-energy imaging is under development. In this work, we present a material decomposition method using multi-energy images. To acquire multi-energy images, Monte Carlo simulation was performed. The X-ray spectrum was modeled and ripple effect was considered. Using the dissimilar characteristics in energy-dependent X-ray attenuation of each material, multiple energy X-ray images were decomposed

Flexible state space modelling for accurate and efficient 3D lung nodule detection.

Early and accurate detection of pulmonary nodules in computed tomography (CT) scans is critical for reducing lung cancer mortality. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformer-based architectures have been widely used for this task, they often suffer from insufficient global context awareness, quadratic complexity, and dependence on post-processing steps such as non-maximum suppression (NMS). This study aims to develop a novel 3D lung nodule detection framework that balances local and global contextual awareness with low computational complexity, while minimizing reliance on man

Vibrational infrared and Raman spectra of the methanol molecule with equivariant neural-network property surfaces.

Electric dipole and polarizability surfaces are developed for the methanol molecule using ab initio electronic structure data, computed at the CCSD/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory, and equivariant neural networks. These property surfaces are used to compute vibrational infrared and Raman intensities with variational vibrational energies and wave functions. The energies and wave functions, fully accounting for the large-amplitude motion and tunneling splitting states, are from continued variational vibrational computations, based on earlier work [Sunaga et al., J. Chem. Phys., 2025, 163, 064101], u
