AIM: To ascertain the rehabilitation needs of hearing impaired school entrants in developing countries based on current criteria for evaluating classification of childhood hearing impairment.

PURPOSE: We sought to develop and evaluate a preliminary morphologic classification of the alveolar ridge after distraction osteogenesis.

A further goal of this effort to categorize bone defects requiring bone augmentation for implant placement is to standardize terminology to allow for more accurate dental communication. The current classification systems provide broad guidelines for treating the acquired adult flat foot. They essentially place the acquired flat foot into categories of no deformity, flexible deformity, or rigid deformity, as well as the condition of the PTT; however, there are many more variables that need to be taken into account to provide optimal care. As our knowledge and experience grows in treating the adult flat foot, more options will be available. The physician treating this condition must stay up-to-date and must not rely solely on the existing classification systems to direct care.

PURPOSE: Pediatric myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are biologically diverse. The French-American-British (FAB) classification of adult forms of MDS is not always applicable because many pediatric patients do not fit into any of the categories. Infected ingrown toenails raise the question of how much nail should be removed and what amount of nail fold reduction should occur. Often, the ungual labia folds are found to be hypertrophic, forcing the nail to push into the flesh and start a foreign body reaction. A simplified approach to this problem is proposed on the basis of the measurement of 100 normal nail folds and 25 infected nail folds.
