Isoniazid (INH) is recommended for tuberculosis prophylaxis in non-liver transplant recipients. However, there is a great reluctance to prescribe this agent for liver transplant candidates and recipients due to the risk of precipitating further hepatic decompensation. We report Mycobacterium bovis BCG infection in two children vaccinated with BCG (Tokyo strain) on the first day of life. Their diagnoses were made by biopsy of skin lesions and pus from an anterior chest wall abscess, respectively, yielding a positive culture of mycobacteria fully susceptible to rifampicin, isoniazid and ethambutol, but resistant to pyrazinamide. A "second generation" antibody to a highly purified lymphocyte product was raised in a goat against material eluted from a rabbit anti-guinea pig lymphokine immunoadsorbent column.
