Bacillus subtilis 7A Enhances the Nutritional Quality of Velvet Bean (Mucuna pruriens Linn.) Seeds and Potentiates Its Role in the Management of Type II Diabetes Mellitus.

Velvet bean seed (VBS) is a tropical underutilized legume, though, rich in bioactive nutrients; nonetheless, limited scientific information exists as regards the health benefits, especially when fermented. Hence, the impact of Bacillus subtilis strain 7A on the nutritional composition and antidiabetic efficacy of fermented VBS (FVBS) at 45°C was investigated. Proximate analyses, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-flame ionization detector (GC-MS-FID) profiling of phytochemicals, and in vitro antioxidants potentials of VBS and FVBS were determined using established protocols. Diabetes was ind…

Successful complex endovascular treatment of a contained rupture of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm caused by Mycobacterium bovis after intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin immunotherapy for bladder cancer.

A 71-year-old man underwent urgent endovascular repair using an inner branched endograft for a contained rupture of the visceral aorta. The patient initially improved, but later deteriorated. Positron emission tomography with computed tomography 9 months after surgery revealed perigraft inflammation. Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guérin was identified from a hematoma puncture. He had undergone intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin therapy 16 months earlier for bladder cancer. This led to an infected native aortic aneurysm. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of infected n…

The transcription activator AtxA from Bacillus anthracis was employed for developing a tight-control, high-level, modulable and stationary-phase-specific transcription activity in Escherichia coli.

The strong transcriptional activity of the virulent gene pagA in Bacillus anthracis has been proven to be anthrax toxin activator (AtxA)-regulated. However, the obscure pagA transcription mechanism hinders practical applications of this strong promoter. In this study, a 509-bp DNA fragment [termed 509sequence, (-508)-(+1) relative to the P2 transcription start site] was cloned upstream of rbs-GFPuv as pTOL02B to elucidate the AtxA-regulated transcription. The 509sequence was dissected into the -10 sequence, -35 sequence, ATrich tract, SLI/SLII and upstream site. In conjunction with the heterol…

Electromotive Drug Administration of Mitomycin C (EMDA/MMC) versus Intravesical Immunotherapy with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) in Intermediate and High Risk Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Although TURB of tumor (TURBT) by itself can eradicate a non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) completely, these tumors commonly recur and can progress to MIBC. It is, therefore, necessary to consider adjuvant therapy in most patients. The primary objective of the present study was to report our experience with EMDA/MMC and BCG, considering efficacy, progression, and recurrence, as adjuvant therapy in NMIBC patients; the secondary objective was to assess the efficacy of EMDA/MMC versus BCG as a comparative treatment. METHODS: Between April 2016 and February 2020, a series of

Interaction of human dynein light chain 1 (DYNLL1) with enterochelin esterase (Salmonella typhimurium) and protective antigen (Bacillus anthraci) might be the potential cause of human infection.

The cytoplasmic dynein light chain 1 (DYNLL1) is an important constituent of motor proteins complex. In human it is encoded by DYNLL1 gene. It is involved in cargo transport functions and interacts with many viral proteins with the help of short linear consensus motif sequence (K/R) XTQT. Viral proteins bind to DYNLL1 through its consensus short linear motif (SLiM) sequence to reach the target site in the cell and cause different infections in the host. It is still unknown if bacterial proteins also contain the same conserved SLiMs sequence through which they bind to this motor protein and cau

Danger lurking in the "unknowns": structure-to-function studies of hypothetical protein Bleg1_2437 from Bacillus lehensis G1 alkaliphile revealed an evolutionary divergent B3 metallo-beta-lactamase.

The effectiveness of β-lactam antibiotics as chemotherapeutic agents to treat bacterial infections is gradually threatened with the emergence of antibiotic resistance mechanism among pathogenic bacteria through the production metallo-β-lactamase (MBL). In this study, we discovered a novel hypothetical protein (HP) termed Bleg1_2437 from the genome of alkaliphilic Bacillus lehensis G1 which exhibited MBL-like properties of B3 subclass; but evolutionary divergent from other circulating B3 MBLs. Domain and sequence analysis of HP Bleg1_2437 revealed that it contains highly conserved Zn2+-binding …

Enhancement of simultaneous gold and copper recovery from discarded mobile phone PCBs using Bacillus megaterium: RSM based optimization of effective factors and evaluation of their interactions.

Bioleaching of Au from mobile phone printed circuit boards (MPPCBs) was studied, using Bacillus megaterium which is a cyanogenic bacterium. To maximize Au extraction, initial pH, pulp density, and glycine concentration were optimized via response surface methodology (RSM). Bioleaching of Cu, an important inhibitor on Au recovery, was also examined. To maximize Au recovery, the optimal condition suggested by the models was initial pH of 10, pulp density of 8.13g/l, and glycine concentration of 10g/l. Under the optimal condition, approximately 72% of Cu and 65g Au/ton MPPCBs, which is 7 times gr…
