Health Equity Analysis of Awareness and Use of GetCheckedOnline, British Columbia's Digital Intervention for Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infection Testing in 5 Urban, Suburban, and Rural Communities: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Digital sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBIs) testing services are used to improve testing access, but might replicate existing social inequities. Previous research has shown that the digital STBBI testing service GetCheckedOnline has improved access to testing in British Columbia (BC), Canada. As part of the program's continuous evaluation, we examined awareness and use of the service in 5 urban, suburban, and rural communities where the program has expanded. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine if social location is associated with differences in awareness

Couple-based intervention for HIV prevention, care and treatment in South Africa: a study protocol for a randomised controlled trial of Simunye.

INTRODUCTION: While improvements have been made across the HIV care continuum in South Africa, gaps remain. Relationship-focused couples-based approaches may be one avenue to improve HIV-related outcomes for men and women. Prior couples-based studies have been found to improve several HIV care and treatment outcomes in this context, but few have considered viral suppression as the primary outcome. We aimed to compare a couples-based motivational-interviewing intervention delivered to couples to similar content delivered to men and women in couples separately. We will test the efficacy of this

Demographic factors and correlates of trust in types of people and information sources: findings from the SAM-KAP Alabama youth survey on HIV prevention.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and gender minority adolescents (SGM) experience higher rates of discrimination than heterosexual and cisgender peers, which may lead to adverse health behaviors, including condomless sex. Experienced discrimination and stigmatization may lead SGM adolescents to disproportionately seek information online around HIV risk and prevention. Understanding trusted sources of information among SGM adolescents is critical to addressing the HIV epidemic. METHODS: Two hundred six SGM adolescents, with male sex assigned at birth, aged 14-17 years, were recruited in-person from an LGBTQ

Kidney dysfunction in adults living with HIV and HBV: a 10-year retrospective cohort study across seven Asia-Pacific countries.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated kidney dysfunction among people with HIV (PWH), comparing those with and without hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infection. We further identified predictors of kidney dysfunction in PWH with HBV. METHODS: Adult PWH in the TREAT Asia Observational Database-Low Intensity TransfEr cohort, who were on antiretroviral therapy, with follow-up after 2010 were included. HBV co-infection was defined by positive hepatitis B surface antigen. Kidney dysfunction was determined as a single estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60mL/min/1.73m2. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to

Impact of HIV self-testing for oral pre-exposure prophylaxis scale-up on drug resistance and HIV outcomes in western Kenya: a modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Community-based oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) provision has the potential to expand PrEP coverage. HIV self-testing can facilitate PrEP community-based delivery but might have lower sensitivity than facility-based HIV testing, potentially leading to inappropriate PrEP use among people with HIV and subsequent development of drug resistance. We aimed to evaluate the impact of HIV self-testing use for PrEP scale-up. METHODS: We parameterised an agent-based network model, EMOD-HIV, to simulate generic tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine PrEP scale-up in western Keny

Assessment of Sexual Violence Risk Perception in Men Who Have Sex With Men: Proposal for the Development and Validation of "G-Date".

BACKGROUND: Sexual violence (SV) is a significant problem for sexual minorities, including men who have sex with men (MSM). The limited research suggests SV is associated with a host of syndemic conditions. These factors tend to cluster and interact to worsen one another. Unfortunately, while much work has been conducted to examine these factors in heterosexual women, there is a lack of research examining MSM, especially their SV risk perception. Further, MSM are active users of dating and sexual networking (DSN) mobile apps, and this technology has demonstrated usefulness for creating safe sp

Factors associated with dating app use for sexual "hookups" in the United States: insights from the National Survey of Family Growth.

BACKGROUND: The use of dating applications for matchmaking and sexual exploits ("hookups") has increased, and this modern phenomenon has supplanted traditional socialization and relationship formation. To date, sociodemographic data on the use of dating apps has been limited. AIM: In this study, we sought to identify predictors associated with the use of dating apps in the United States. METHODS: Using cross-sectional data from the 2017-2019 National Survey of Family Growth, we examined sociodemographic determinants influencing the use of dating apps to find partners for sexual intercourse.

Using an intersectionality-based approach to evaluate mental health services use among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

AIMS: To cope with homonegativity-generated stress, gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBM) use more mental health services (MHS) compared with heterosexual men. Most previous research on MHS among GBM uses data from largely white HIV-negative samples. Using an intersectionality-based approach, we evaluated the concomitant impact of racialization and HIV stigma on MHS use among GBM, through the mediating role of perceived discrimination (PD). METHODS: We used baseline data from 2371 GBM enrolled in the Engage cohort study, collected between 2017 and 2019, in Montreal, Toronto

Effects of Kisspeptin on Sexual Brain Processing and Penile Tumescence in Men With Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: The human physiological sexual response is crucial for reward, satisfaction, and reproduction. Disruption of the associated neurophysiological pathways predisposes to low sexual desire; the most prevalent psychological form is hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), which affects 8% of men but currently has no effective pharmacological treatment options. The reproductive neuropeptide kisspeptin offers a putative therapeutic target, owing to emerging understanding of its role in reproductive behavior. OBJECTIVE: To determine the physiological, behavioral, neural, and hormonal eff

Community-Engaged Intervention Mapping for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Black and Latinx Sexual Minority Men With HIV in New York City: Protocol for a Web-Based Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Approximately every 37 seconds, someone in the United States dies of cardiovascular disease (CVD). It has emerged as an important contributor to morbidity among persons with HIV. Black and Latinx sexual minority men are at higher risk of both HIV and CVD when compared to heterosexual, nonethnic or minority men. Persons with HIV have a 1.5 to 2-times risk of having CVD than do HIV-negative persons. Data suggest that by the year 2030, an estimated 78% of persons with HIV will have CVD. The relationship between HIV and CVD in marginalized populations is not well understood because ove
