Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a hematological disorder characterized by complement-mediated hemolytic anemia, thrombophilia, and bone marrow failure. BACKGROUND: The search for sickle cell disease (SCD) prognosis biomarkers is a challenge. These markers identification can help to establish further therapy, later severe clinical complications and with patients follow-up. Liver transplantation (LT) is an established treatment for children with acute and chronic liver failure. Adjuvant use of autologous platelet concentrate (APC) to assist bone healing in foot and ankle surgery has not been reported. This study examined the clinical results and complications after the adjuvant use of APC in high-risk patients undergoing elective foot and ankle surgery. In 42 children with congenital heart disease coagulation factor levels were studied serially during the first 20 hours following cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. The acyanotic patients, and also cyanotic patients who survived the operation, showed a progressive improvement in their coagulation profile from initial low postoperative levels.
