Extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC) is a rare soft-tissue sarcoma, which primarily occurs deep in the extremities, especially in skeletal muscle, or tendon. OBJECTIVE: Unplanned resection of a sarcoma is often chosen in the early phase by general physicians without any imaging scrutiny. The present study aimed to highlight the clinical problems associated with unplanned resection of sarcomas.
METHODS: Thirty-eight patients who underwent unplanned resection of a sarcoma and additional treatment were examined. The definite histological grading was high in 31 patients and low in 7 patients.

Leiomyosarcomas are unusual soft-tissue tumours that occur in the retroperitoneum, peripheral soft tissues, gastrointestinal and genito-urinary tracts, vessels and (rarely) in bone. Upper abdominal CT scans were performed on 45 consecutive patients with biopsy proven but previously untreated small cell carcinoma of the lung. Evidence of metastases was found in 16 (36%) patients. The most common site of metastases was the liver (27%). CT had a sensitivity of 88% and specificity of 94% as compared with biopsy results.
