Right-lateralized cerebellar cortical thickening is associated with mild behavioral impairment in mild cognitive impairment.

BACKGROUND: Mild Behavioral Impairment (MBI) reflects later-life emergence of persistent neuropsychiatric symptoms and is increasingly recognized as an early manifestation of neurodegenerative disease, yet cerebellar correlates remain underexplored. We tested whether cerebellar morphometry is associated with incident MBI in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS: Using longitudinal Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative data, MBI was derived from Neuropsychiatric Inventory/ Neuropsychiatric Inventory-Questionnaire items mapped to five diagnostic domains and defined as new symptoms pers

The 3xTg-AD Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease Exhibits Lifelong Reductions in Circulating Choline Despite Adequate Dietary Intake, With Sex-Specific Neuropathological and Behavioral Phenotypes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by amyloid-beta plaques and neurofibrillary tau tangles in the brain, neuroinflammation, and cognitive impairment. The 3xTg-AD mouse is a commonly used model in AD studies. 3xTg-AD males display inconsistent pathology; therefore, most studies utilize females. An understanding of why sexual dimorphism exists in this model is lacking. In humans, low circulating choline levels are associated with elevated AD pathology, while higher choline intake reduces pathology in AD mouse models. Here, we sought to understand if blood choli

Apparent Cerebellar Volumetric Stabilization and Emergent Cortical Hyperexcitability During Long-Acting Injectable Aripiprazole Maintenance in Adolescent Bipolar Disorder.

Background and Clinical Significance: This report investigates the complex intersection of macrostructural neuroprotection and cortical hyperexcitability during long-acting atypical antipsychotic maintenance. We present a novel clinical case demonstrating an apparent absence of detectable cerebellar vermis atrophy progression during long-acting injectable (LAI) aripiprazole maintenance, which temporally coincided with the emergence of a potential epileptogenic risk in an adolescent with bipolar disorder (BD) and cannabis use disorder. Beyond motor precision, the vermis modulates emotional-cogn

Higher semaglutide dose is associated with lower neuropsychiatric event incidence independent of weight loss.

GLP1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have transformed obesity treatment, but their impact on neuropsychiatric outcomes remains poorly understood. We conducted an observational study of 63,215 patients with preexisting neuropsychiatric conditions and evaluated 24 incident neuropsychiatric outcomes following treatment initiation. In propensity-matched analyses, semaglutide was associated with broadly lower neuropsychiatric event risk over two years compared with metformin, SGLT2 inhibitors, and DPP-4 inhibitors. Within the semaglutide-treated cohort, higher attained dose during the first two years

Videoconference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Medication-Treated Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Randomized, Assessor-Blinded, Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that frequently persists into adulthood. Pharmacotherapies are effective but have side effects and dropout risks. Videoconference-based cognitive behavioral therapy (vCBT) has emerged as a promising intervention, particularly for improving treatment accessibility. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of vCBT in adults with ADHD compared to treatment-as-usual (TAU) using a randomized, assessor-blinded, controlled trial design. METHODS: Thirty participants (aged 18-65 years) with ADHD were random

Hypergolic Ignition Behaviors and Propulsive Performance of a Mixture of [AMIm][DCA] with Methanol, Ethanol, and n-Propanol Reacting with White Fuming Nitric Acid.

In this article, we study the hypergolic ignition behaviors between a droplet of 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([AMIm][DCA]) blended by methanol/ethanol/n-propanol and a deep white fuming nitric acid oxidizer pool, with an emphasis on the effects of different alcohol additions. Two high-speed cameras with/without a long-distance microscope and an infrared camera are used to capture the details of the ignition process. The main work of this article is listed as following: (1) The hypergolic process generally follows four steps: contact-microexplosion-massive protrusion-ignition, and t

Associations between polygenic scores for cognitive and non-cognitive factors of educational attainment and measures of behavior, psychopathology, and neuroimaging in the adolescent brain cognitive development study.

BACKGROUND: Educational attainment (EduA) is correlated with life outcomes, and EduA itself is influenced by both cognitive and non-cognitive factors. A recent study performed a 'genome-wide association study (GWAS) by subtraction,' subtracting genetic effects for cognitive performance from an educational attainment GWAS to create orthogonal 'cognitive' and 'non-cognitive' factors. These cognitive and non-cognitive factors showed associations with behavioral health outcomes in adults; however, whether these correlations are present during childhood is unclear. METHODS: Using data from up to 5

Association between cognitive functioning, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and related disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Treatable mental disorders, such as psychotic, major depressive disorder (MDD), and bipolar disorder (BD), contribute to a substantial portion of suicide risk, often accompanied by neurocognitive deficits. We report the association between cognitive function and suicidal ideation/suicide attempts (SI/SA) in individuals with schizoaffective disorder, BD, and MDD. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Ovid and Scopus databases for primary studies published from inception to April 2024. Eligible articles that reported on the effect size of association between cognit

The nature and persistence of the effects of posthypnotic suggestions on food preferences: The final report of an online study.

The persistence of food preferences, which are crucial for diet-related decisions, is a significant obstacle to changing unhealthy eating behavior. To overcome this obstacle, the current study investigates whether posthypnotic suggestions (PHSs) can enhance food-related decisions by measuring food choices and subjective ratings. After assessing hypnotic susceptibility in Session 1, at the beginning of Session 2, a PHS was delivered aiming to increase the desirability of healthy food items (e.g., vegetables and fruit). After the termination of hypnosis, a set of two tasks was administrated twic

Methylphenidate is more effective to improve inhibitory control and working memory compared to tDCS in children and adolescents with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder: a proof-of-concept study.

INTRODUCTION: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by an inappropriate, pervasive and persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity and associated with substantial functional impairment. Despite considerable advances in the understanding and management of ADHD, some patients do not respond well to methylphenidate (MPH), the first-choice pharmacological treatment. Over the past decades, among non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has proven to be an effective and safe technique to improve beha

Water-Reaching Platform for Longitudinal Assessment of Cortical Activity and Fine Motor Coordination Defects in a Huntington Disease Mouse Model.

Huntington disease (HD), caused by dominantly inherited expansions of a CAG repeat results in characteristic motor dysfunction. Although gross motor defects have been extensively characterized in multiple HD mouse models using tasks such as rotarod and beam walking, less is known about forelimb deficits. We develop a high-throughput alternating reward/nonreward water-reaching task and training protocol conducted daily over approximately two months to simultaneously monitor forelimb impairment and mesoscale cortical changes in GCaMP activity, comparing female zQ175 (HD) and wild-type (WT) litte

The effects of psychostimulants on cognitive functions in individuals with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with a broad range of deficits in cognitive functions which has significant implications for quality of life. Psychostimulants are demonstrated to improve symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity, however, their impact on cognition remains incompletely characterized. Herein, the aim of this systematic review is to synthesize the extant literature reporting on the effects of psychostimulants on cognitive function in individuals with ADHD. METHOD: A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from

Difficulties in emotion regulation in bipolar disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe mental disorder characterized by mood swings and functional impairment. Although alterations in emotional regulation (ER) are a key feature, a comprehensive meta-analysis on abnormalities in emotion regulation in BD is still lacking. METHODS: We performed a random-effects meta-analysis on studies comparing the ER measured with the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) in BD and healthy controls (HC) or borderline personality disorder (BPD) and calculated the standardized mean difference (SMD) of the total DERS score between those with BD

Impulse Control Disorders by Dopamine Partial Agonists: A Pharmacovigilance-Pharmacodynamic Assessment Through the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System.

BACKGROUND: The dopaminergic partial agonism of the so-called third-generation antipsychotics (TGAs; aripiprazole, brexpiprazole, cariprazine) is hypothesized to cause impulse control disorders (ICDs). Relevant warnings by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were posted on aripiprazole (2016) and brexpiprazole (2018). Our study investigated the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System and the pharmacodynamic CHEMBL database to further characterize TGA-induced ICDs. METHODS: We downloaded and pre-processed the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System up to December 2020. We adapted Bradford Hill criter

Clinical Characteristics and Self-Harm in Forensic Psychiatric Patients.

Self-harm, comprising non-suicidal self-injury, and suicide attempts, is a serious and potentially life-threatening behavior that has been associated with poor life quality and an increased risk of suicide. In forensic populations, increased rates of self-harm have been reported, and suicide is one of the leading causes of death. Aside from associations between self-harm and mental disorders, knowledge on self-harm in forensic psychiatric populations is limited. The purpose of this study was to characterize the clinical needs of a cohort of forensic psychiatric patients, including self-harm an
