Accurate analysis of lesions in colonoscopic images is essential for computer-aided diagnosis. However, most existing methods are designed for single-lesion segmentation and assume a predefined lesion category, limiting their applicability in real-world scenarios where multiple lesion types exhibit similar visual characteristics. To address this issue, we propose a unified framework for the joint classification and segmentation of dual-type lesions in colonoscopic images, enabling simultaneous identification and localization of submucosal lesions and polyps/adenomas. The proposed method integr

Calvarial intraosseous hemangiomas are rare, benign vascular tumors arising from the intrinsic vasculature of bone. They account for approximately 0.2% of all benign osseous neoplasms and 2% of calvarial tumors. They most commonly present as localized, progressive scalp swelling with headache and are diagnosed using computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Reports describing the sonographic appearance of calvarial intraosseous hemangiomas are exceedingly limited, and no cases have been reported in which point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) was used for evaluation in the emerge

CIC-rearranged sarcoma, a rare, undifferentiated small round cell tumor characterized by CIC gene fusions, arises in deep soft tissues of extremities and trunk, whereas an intracranial origin is rare. We report an 11-year-old girl with dural CIC-rearranged sarcoma presenting with intracranial hemorrhage at both initial diagnosis and recurrence. She presented with a sudden-onset headache and motor aphasia. Computed tomography revealed a left frontal convexity lesion with extensive acute subdural hematoma. Due to rapidly deteriorating consciousness, emergent hematoma evacuation and tumor resecti

Accurately estimating the internal structure of deformable objects from sparse measurements remains a significant challenge in robotics. This work proposes a three-stage identification framework for this problem. First, a classification strategy determines a minimal informative set of indentation locations using a generalized error computed from pre-simulated FEM force reactions of baseline cavity models and flat-punch indentation estimation. Using this set, the estimation stage detects the cavity type and provides a preliminary estimate of its geometric parameters based solely on measured ind

Pyomyositis is a rare bacterial infection of skeletal muscle. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen. Pyomyositis is typically seen in tropical regions and/or in individuals with underlying conditions, and it usually affects the large muscles of the lower limbs and pelvis. We presented the case of a 60-year-old healthy man who developed pyomyositis of the sartorius muscle after sustaining a motorcycle-related contusion to his left knee. Thirteen days postinjury, he was admitted with severe thigh swelling, erythema, and systemic symptoms indicative of necrotizing soft-tissue infectio

OBJECTIVE: To explore the diagnostic efficacy of combining computed tomography (CT) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in determining whether vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are benign or malignant.
METHODS: From January 2020 to January 2025, 150 patients with single vertebral compression fractures who were admitted to our hospital were selected as study participants. According to the pathological findings, they were divided into the benign group (76 cases) and the malignant group (74 cases). All patients underwent MRI and CT examinations. The efficacy of the combined use of these t

BACKGROUND: Overuse injuries are a major concern in high school endurance sports such as cross-country running.
METHODS: This study explores how joint laxity, foot placement, and surface friction affect ligament strain during obstacle interaction, using an in-silico computer model simulating a "stepping on obstacle" scenario. Incorporating ground reaction forces and muscle activation, the model evaluates soft tissue responses across 27 cases-varying three levels each of joint laxity (none, medium, high), foot placement (central, medial, lateral), and surface friction (low, medium, high). INTRODUCTION: Subcutaneous emphysema (SE) of the upper extremity is a rare condition, typically associated with penetrating trauma, infections, or chest injuries. Its occurrence following blunt trauma with an isolated scapular fracture is exceedingly uncommon and may mimic more serious conditions such as necrotizing fasciitis. We present a rare case of upper-limb SE associated with an open scapular fracture and propose a diagnostic approach to distinguish benign SE from limb-threatening infections.
CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old male presented with pain and swelling in the right upper limb follow

The Geyser Sign (GS) is a rare imaging sign characterized by synovial fluid leakage through a full-thickness rotator cuff tear into the subacromial bursa and acromioclavicular joint (ACJ), resulting in capsular distension and cyst formation. We report the case of a 72-year-old man who presented with bilateral shoulder pain and a firm and compressible swelling over both ACJs with marked inflammatory signs. Radiographs demonstrated ACJ soft-tissue swelling, degenerative changes of the glenohumeral joint (GHJ) and ACJ, and features of chronic rotator cuff arthropathy. Computed tomography revealed

A 15-month-old intact female rat was presented with worsening lethargy and dysorexia present for 1 wk and bruxism present for 3 d. The diet was fruits, vegetables, and granola. On presentation, the rat was mildly dehydrated and had marked incisor malocclusion with enamel hypoplasia. On oral examination, the left mandibular molars were not visible and the gum line was prominent. Black punctate enamel discoloration was observed multifocally on molars, but no mucosal lesions were observed. The incisors were trimmed and the rat was discharged with analgesics, supportive care, and dietary recommend

Pneumoparotid is a rare cause of parotid gland swelling characterized by the presence of air within Stensen's duct and/or the parotid gland itself. It is often confused with more common causes of parotid enlargement, such as infection, and may be self-induced or associated with increased intraoral pressure. Awareness of this entity is important to avoid misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. We report an adult case of self-induced pneumoparotid in a 46-year-old male who developed recurrent bilateral parotid swelling over several months due to intentional oral auto-insufflation performed to

BACKGROUND Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare and highly aggressive soft tissue sarcoma, mainly occurring in male adolescents and young adults. It most commonly arises from the peritoneum and is characterized by the EWSR1-WT1 fusion gene. Patients typically present with widespread intra-abdominal disease and have a poor prognosis, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 15%. CASE REPORT A 23-year-old man presented with acute right upper quadrant abdominal pain, significant unintentional weight loss, early satiety, and constipation. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen an

Infections of the musculoskeletal system contribute substantially to global morbidity and healthcare expenditure, and conventional imaging frequently falls short of providing the sensitivity and specificity required for early diagnosis in complicated presentations. In this review, we examine the clinical role of [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography paired with computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (FDG-PET/MRI) in the workup of these infections. Drawing on the published literature, we summarize evidence across osteomyelitis, spondylodiscitis, septic ar

INTRODUCTION: Epidermoid cysts (EC) are among the most common benign swellings that can develop in any part of the body. EC occurring on the penis is usually rare and congenital. Here, we report a case of an EC of the penis that developed in a 37-year-old man following a Maasai circumcision.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old male, who presented with a swelling on the distal penile (preputial) following a Maasai circumcision done in 1999, had the swelling for 15 years. A total cyst excision was done, and the sample was taken for histopathological investigation. Gross features of the sample: sin

Ossifying Fibromyxoid Tumor (OFMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of intermediate biological potential that typically presents as a slow-growing mass. We report a diagnostic challenge involving a 54-year-old male with a 20-year history of a thigh mass that recently exhibited rapid enlargement and ulceration. Initial superficial biopsy led to a high suspicion of cutaneous tuberculosis due to false-positive acid-fast bacilli (AFB) staining and a positive T-SPOT, despite negative tuberculosis serology and normal inflammatory markers. This diagnostic pitfall was attributed to the "shell" of superf

High-resolution spatial transcriptomics requires computational methods to accurately assign transcripts to individual cells. We present SMURF (Segmentation and Manifold UnRolling Framework), a cross-platform soft-segmentation algorithm that uses deep learning to map mRNAs from capture spots to nearby nuclei. SMURF also unrolls complex tissue architectures by projecting cells onto Cartesian coordinates, enabling analyses of cell-type organization and gene expression gradients. We show that SMURF assigns mRNAs to single cells more accurately than existing approaches and robustly unrolls complex

Sinonasal extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare localized plasma cell neoplasm arising outside the bone marrow, most commonly involving the upper aerodigestive tract. It typically presents with unilateral nasal obstruction and epistaxis and may mimic a broad spectrum of benign and malignant sinonasal conditions. Cross-sectional imaging usually demonstrates an enhancing soft-tissue mass with possible bone remodeling or destruction; however, imaging findings are not specific, and histopathological confirmation of monoclonal plasma cell proliferation remains essential. INTRODUCTION: Volar dislocations of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joints are notably infrequent, attributable to the inherent stability afforded by their osseous morphology and robust volar ligamentous restrictions. When combined with fractures of two or more metacarpal bases, diagnosis and treatment may be delayed.
CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old male patient presented with volar dislocation of multiple CMC joints and metacarpal fractures, involving the bases of the second, third, and fourth metacarpals, subsequent to a low-energy fall from a bicycle. The injury was evaluated utilizing plain radiogra
