Determinants of condom use among junior high school students in a minority, inner-city school district.

Condoms reduce the risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission; however, their use among adolescents has been inconsistent. Little is known about factors which motivate consistent condom use, particularly among younger adolescents. In a study designed to identify such factors, 1899 inner-city junior high school students were surveyed. In June 1988, students completed an anonymous self-report questionnaire assessing HIV-related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Among sexually active students (N = 403), logistic regression analysis evaluated the influence of demographic, psychosoc

Women's Awareness of Reproductive Health.

Background and Objectives: reproductive disorders are a serious global concern in medical, social, and demographic contexts. According to estimates, approximately 10-15% of couples around the world suffer from infertility. Numerous studies have shown that modifiable lifestyle factors, such as a high-fat diet, a postponed decision to start a family, tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, risky sexual behavior, psychiatric diseases, and chronic stress, have a negative influence on the fertility of women. The main goal of this study is to assess the knowledge of women about reproductive health, in

Guideline-recommended vs high-dose long-term opioid therapy for chronic noncancer pain is associated with better health outcomes: data from a representative sample of the German population.

Recent evidence-based guidelines for long-term opioid therapy (LTOT) for chronic noncancer pain (CNCP) have defined daily morphine equivalent doses (MEQ/d) that require particular caution. The recommendation for a threshold MEQ/d is based on North American studies that have demonstrated negative health outcomes associated with high-dose LTOT for CNCP. We have conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study using an anonymized German health claims database, including 4,028,618 persons insured by 69 German statutory health insurances, representative of age and sex for the German population in 20

Narrative Review: Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Homeless Youth-What Do We Know About Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevalence and Risk?

BACKGROUND: Homelessness affects an estimated 1.6 million US youth annually. Compared with housed youth, homeless youth are more likely to engage in high-risk behaviors, including inconsistent condom use, multiple sex partners, survival sex, and alcohol/drug use, putting them at increased sexually transmitted disease (STD) risk. However, there is no national estimate of STD prevalence among this population. METHODS: We identified 10 peer-reviewed articles (9 unique studies) reporting STD prevalence among homeless US youth (2000-2015). Descriptive and qualitative analyses identified STD preval

Knowledge About Head and Neck Cancer in the Population of Vojvodina: A Comparative Study.

In 2009, the Institute of Oncology of Vojvodina reported the total of 553 newly registered patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) in the Province of Vojvodina, with a lethal outcome in 332 HNC patients. These facts impose the need of investigating the health education of the general population and proposing possible prevention measures. The present prospective study included 200 subjects classified into two groups. Group 1 (100 subjects) consisted of randomly selected adults from urban and rural regions of Vojvodina. Group II (100 subjects) included the adults from the same regions affected

Sexual risk reduction needs of adolescents living with HIV in a clinical care setting.

As anti-retroviral therapy becomes increasingly available, young people living with HIV need tailored support to adopt healthy sexual behaviors. There has been a gap in the availability of culturally appropriate techniques for secondary prevention and sexual risk reduction in this target group. This formative study assessed sexual and reproductive health needs and problems, as well as determinants of sexual risk-taking among young people living with HIV aged 11-21 years attending the Paediatric Infectious Disease Clinic in Kampala, Uganda. Theoretical guidance was provided by the Information-M

Position paper on symbiotic intelligence in healthcare: Can AI help us better understand suicidal behavior and prevent suicide?

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10-24 worldwide, yet identifying individuals at risk remains a major challenge. In Norway, suicide rates reached their highest level in 25 years in 2024, underscoring persistent knowledge gaps in national prevention efforts and the need for innovative, interdisciplinary, and supplementary approaches. There are no simple solutions to mental ill health or suicide, and no single factor can adequately explain such complex phenomena; however, it remains crucial to examine how interacting risk factors may increase vulnerability and
