Secondary pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is rare but may occur in association with malignancy, certain infections, and exposure to inorganic or organic dust and some toxic fumes. This case report describes the second recorded case of PAP due to exposure to cotton dust. A 24-year-old man developed PAP after working as a spinner for eight years without respiratory protection. He was admitted as an emergency patient with very severe dyspnea for four months and cough for several years. Chest X-ray showed bilateral diffuse alveolar consolidation. This report includes details of the clinical and pathologic features of 31 dogs with a range of systemic illness and granulomatous lymphadenopathy associated with the presence of birefringent crystalline material within lymph nodes. Similar crystalline material was found in the lymph nodes of dogs with lymphoma (n = 9) and as an incidental finding within the canine lung (n = 9). Intratubular deposits of calcium oxalate crystals can be responsible for acute renal failure. The present report concerns two cases for which none of the known causes of oxalate nephropathy were found. Both patients had common features: chronic alcoholism and denutrition. Except for early lumbar and abdominal pain, the renal failure picture was without any peculiarity. A 46-year-old woman suffering from rheumatoid arthritis developed numerous round opacities at the apex of the right lung 11 years after an exposure to dolomite .
