The cisternograms and pneumoencephalograms of 58 patients with suspected "normal pressure" hydrocephalus were correlated and the relationship of ventricular radiopharmaceutical entry and stasis to ventricular size was analyzed. It was found that radiopharmaceutical entry relates directly to ventricular size, stasis occurring only in markedly enlarged ventricles. Cerebrospinal fluid imaging alone is a highly reliable diagnostic study only if patients exhibit the characteristic cisternographic patterns of normal pressure hydrocephalus. BACKGROUND: To investigate the hemodynamic response of the cerebral bridging veins to increased intracranial pressure (ICP) during normo- and hyperventilation.
METHODS: Flow velocity (FV(m)), diameter (D), and pulsatility index (PI) were measured and calculated in the cerebral bridging veins using Color Doppler Ultrasound in seven pigs, and cerebral blood flow (CBF) was measured using (133)Xe clearance in nine pigs, both during normo- and hyperventilation. We present an unusual case of an aneurysm of the distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA). A 51-year-old female presented a subarachnoid hemorrhage with mild consciousness disturbance on August 6, 1992.
