Tuberculous dacryoadenitis occurs rarely. It should be suspected in children presenting with unremitting inflammation of the lacrimal gland despite standard antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory treatment, and a thorough systemic evaluation should be undertaken to identify a primary infectious site. We present an adolescent girl in whom bilateral dacryoadenitis was the first sign of pulmonary tuberculosis.

UNLABELLED: The authors present a rare case of acute bilateral dacryoadenitis in association with infectious mononucleosis. A 27 year-old woman had acute bilateral lacrimal gland enlargement with inflammatory signs. The CT scan findings and laboratorial investigations confirmed the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis. The systemic treatment with intravenous steroids was initiated leading to complete remission of the signs and symptoms.

A new scintigraphic method, the radionuclide dacryography, to evaluate lacrimal drainage and its disorders is described. A drop of 99mTc-pertechnetate is dropped onto the eyes and the transport of the nuclide is registered by a scintillation camera. By this method it is easy to verify, under physiological conditions, suspected obstructions of the lacrimal drainage system and to determine its localization. The absorbed radiation dose using radionuclide dacryography is very low as compared to radiological methods.

Silicone intubation is an alternative to dacryocystorhinostomy in selected patients who have epiphora and obstruction of the nasolacrimal system. Silicone tubing may be passed through the nasolacrimal system and left in place for a prolonged period of time. In many instances, this obviates the need for a dacryocystorhinostomy. If the intubation is not completely successful, a dacryocystorhinostomy can always be carried out at a later date.

PURPOSE: This study explores the diagnosis and management of unusual anomalies involving the canaliculi, nasolacrimal duct, nasal cavity, and sinuses in childhood.

To evaluate the result of sublabial transnasomaxillary approach (STA) as a route for removal of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). Treatment of diseases of the lacrimal duct remains a pressing problem in ophthalmology. These diseases are responsible for 71-85.4% diseases in capable people. Sixty patients with chronic dacryocystitis with partially retained patency of the lacrimal duct were treated by He-Ne low-frequency laser ULF-01 (output power 6.10 mcWt, laser beam wave length 0.632 nm). Canaliculitis is an uncommon inflammation of the lacrimal canaliculi, and it is often misdiagnosed as conjunctivitis or dacryocystitis.
