INTRODUCTION: Skin carcinomas require excision with clear margins. In the head and neck region, these excisions most often result in round or oval defects. Due to the big size of the defect and limited tissue elasticity, it is not always possible to close these defects in the same operation. We describe a technique to minimize the size of the defect.
TECHNICAL NOTE: It is an improved purse string suture technique. The purse string suture is realized with a circular continuous intradermal suture and is improved by three or four V-Y sutures, in order to reduce the skin defect.

Eight patients underwent the repair of atrial septal defect using the limited skin incision and partial median sternotomy. The average length of skin incision was 55% of the longitudinal size of the sternum. Our approach did not prolong the operation time and decreased the bloodloss. Moreover, postoperative events, such as hematoma, sternal instability, and wound infection, were not observed, and the cosmetic result was excellent. We think this method is safe and effective especially for children with atrial septal defect.

Epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica is a rare hereditary disease of skin. There are always flexion contractures and pseudosyndactylies of all fingers and adduction contractures of the thumb. Aims of surgical management are reconstruction and maintaining of hand function. Technical details of 18 operations in six children are described. Ultramicroscopical criteria help to choose patients for therapy with phenytoin. It is as yet too early to assess the results of the latter treatment.

Massive gynecomastia can produce severe psychological problems for the patient. The surgical techniques employed for simple gynecomastia are not effective in correcting the displaced nipple and excess skin. Utilizing a dermal predicle technique, the excess fat and breast tissue have been removed, along with relocation of the nipple. Satisfactory results and acceptable scars have been obtained in four patients.

In the horse, surgical approaches for plating fractures of the ulna, radius, metacarpus, tibia, and metatarsus involved a single curvilinear skin incision and incision of the superficial fascia in a manner to prevent postoperative dehiscence. The tension side of the bones, as well as location of nerves, arteries, veins, and muscles, were the major determinants in developing these approaches for atraumatic surgery and short operative time.

OBJECTIVE: Droopy tip may lead to functional impairment due to nasal valve insufficiency. There are several techniques available in order to correct under rotated tip, including sutures, resection and grafting. The major drawback of these standart procedures is the correction of nasal cartilage framework rather than droopy skin envelope. In this study, we demonstrated the long-term results of percutaneous rhinolift procedure which aids in the correction of cartilage framework position and droopy skin at the same time, in patients who had isolated nasal tip ptosis.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: Utilization of foreskin or a circular penile island flap to form the urethral plate. Second stage urethral reconstruction with buccal mucosa. Resurfacing of the ventral surface of the penis with a foreskin island flap using the buttonhole technique. An innovation in contrast to previously described procedures is the resection of a transversal strip of dorsal penile skin to avoid bulky wedges of skin on the sides of the penis.
