The corn oil industry suffers significant economic losses from zearalenone (ZEN) contamination. This study explored the application of chlorine dioxide (ClO2), a potent oxidizing agent, to degrade ZEN in the contaminated corn germ, which is the primary raw material for corn oil production. Under optimized processing conditions, ClO2 achieved a significant degradation rate of 65.48% for ZEN. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis identified four major degradation products, characterized by molecular formulas C14H16O6, C17H22O7, C17H20O6, and C13H16O3, suggesting structural alt

Foodborne diseases pose a severe threat to human health. As a critical meat-borne pathogen, Escherichia coli O157:H7 (E. coli O157:H7) can trigger severe illnesses such as hemorrhagic enteritis, threatening public safety and causing a huge economic impact on the meat industry. However, previous detection methods have struggled to strike an optimal balance among accuracy, reliability, and efficiency, with various traditional techniques exhibiting obvious technical shortcomings. To overcome these limitations, this study developed a novel biosensor for the rapid detection of E. coli O157:H7 based

Rising CO2 emissions continue to motivate catalytic strategies that recycle carbon into useful products. In CO2 hydrogenation, environmental relevance depends not only on conversion but on selectivity control and operational stability. The reverse water-gas shift, methanation, methanol synthesis, and C2 + pathways operate within overlapping temperature and pressure windows, where minor changes in catalyst state or reaction conditions can markedly alter product distribution and downstream separation requirements. This review frames CO2 hydrogenation as a selectivity-driven design challenge. Key

Taenia solium Taeniasis is a zoonotic intestinal infection that poses a significant threat to public health and imposes a substantial economic burden on developing regions, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study formulates and rigorously analyses a deterministic mathematical model, comprised of a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations, to investigate the transmission dynamics of the parasite under the influence of public health education campaigns. Using the next-generation matrix method, we derive the effective reproduction number, R e d , as the fundamental threshold

The World Health Organisation (WHO) classified the novel coronavirus, known as SARS-CoV-2, as a public health catastrophe of worldwide concern in late 2019 because of its severe economic damage and unexpected global medical crisis. This illness has spread to over 200 different nations and territories as of June 2020, with approximately 7.6 million confirmed instances and over 0.42 million verified deaths. The hunt for an effective treatment is accelerating, although a number of vaccine candidates have entered clinical investigations, and little information about their safety and effectiveness

Duck plague (DP), caused by the duck plague virus (DPV), is a highly contagious disease characterized by high morbidity and mortality, causing significant economic losses and biosecurity risks to the duck farming industry. Since current vaccines do not provide complete protection, the development of antiviral drugs is urgently needed. In this study, we evaluated the anti-DPV activity of the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway inhibitor Eeyarestatin I (EerI) in vitro. Our results demonstrated that EerI suppressed DPV proliferation in duck embryo fibroblast (DEF) cells in a dose-dependent m

The clover cutworm, Scotogramma trifolii Rottemberg (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a globally distributed polyphagous pest causing significant economic losses to agricultural crops. RT-qPCR is a gold-standard technique for gene expression analysis, yet its accuracy depends critically on stable reference genes for data normalization. To address the lack of validated reference genes in S. trifolii, we evaluated six candidate genes (β-actin, RPL9, GAPDH, RPL10, EF1-α, and TUB) across four developmental stages (egg, larva, pupa, and adult) and six adult tissues (head, thorax, abdomen, wings, legs, a

The global pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has posed unprecedented challenges to public health and economic stability. Central to SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis is its ability to evade the host immune response by hijacking host pathways via the interaction between viral and host proteins. We identified Ras-GTPase-activating protein SH3 domain-binding protein 1/2 (G3BP1/G3BP2) as a critical host factor that interacts with the viral nucleocapsid (N) protein, emerging from a comparative analysis of proteomic data from multiple studies. We revisited the und…

Avian coccidiosis, caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Eimeria, poses a major threat to the poultry industry worldwide, leading to severe economic losses through reduced growth rates, poor feed efficiency, and increased mortality. Although the conventional management of this disease has relied on anticoccidial drugs, the overwhelming use of these agents has led to the rapid emergence and spread of drug-resistant Eimeria isolates, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic approaches. This study employed computational approaches to identify novel inhibitors targeting Eimeria tene

Despite the availability of vaccines, foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) remains a significant concern in many developing countries, causing severe economic losses and affecting local farming communities. Virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines are highly regarded for their safety and efficacy. N-glycosylation for stabilisation and recognition by antigen-presenting cells has been a widely adopted strategy, particularly in enveloped viruses. Here, FMD virus (FMDV) VLPs were employed as a model for artificial glycosylation. N-glycosylation was introduced by mutating the potential glycosylation site of VP1

Entropy-driven Strand Displacement Reaction (ESDR) serves as a fundamental tool for designing DNA signal-amplified biosensors, demonstrating significant potential in early disease diagnosis. Unfortunately, most ESDR systems still face problems such as complex design, long reaction time (typically several hours), low efficiency, and poor stability in complex biological environments. Inspired by the natural fluid cell membrane, we employed the simply prepared red blood cell (RBC) membrane as a carrier to design a confined and fluid RBC-ESDR system for rapid and efficient detection of microRNA. African swine fever virus (ASFV) has substantially spread worldwide, resulting in significant economic losses in the swine industry. Despite extensive research, no ASF vaccine has surpassed the effectiveness of live attenuated vaccines. For instance, the live attenuated vaccine ASFV-G-ΔI177L/ΔLVR has demonstrated good efficacy and safety, along with prolonged persistence of ASF antibodies after vaccination. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate its potential for protection against highly virulent homologous ASF viruses based on changes in the farm environment. To this end, we challenged domestic pig

Swine acute diarrhoea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV) is an enveloped, single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus that causes acute diarrhoea and death in piglets, resulting in significant economic losses to the pig farming industry. Studying the interaction patterns between SADS-CoV and host proteins can provide guidance for the development of antiviral drugs. In previous work, we identified 289 host proteins interacting with the SADS-CoV M protein through glutathione S-transferase pull down combined with LC-MS/MS. Here, we focus on prohibitin (PHB), which is associated with the stability of mi

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose severe health and economic challenges, exacerbated by emerging antiviral drug resistance. As of now, there are several vaccines and a few FDA-approved drugs available; however, due to the emergence of antiviral drug resistance still there is a need for novel strategies and antiviral drugs. This study investigates honey bee-derived antimicrobial peptides (BAMPs) as potential multi-target antiviral agents against SARS-CoV-2. A total of 82 BAMPs from eight bee species, classified into seven peptide classes, were screened for favorable pharmacokinetic and ph

Brucellosis, a prevalent zoonotic disease caused by bacteria from the genus Brucella, presents a substantial public health and economic challenges worldwide. In this paper, we formulate a two-patch deterministic model to investigate the impact of short-term displacement of domestic animals on the transmission dynamics of brucellosis within and between patches with heterogeneous risk of infection. The model analysis is performed, and the basic reproduction number ( R 0 ) is computed and used in the stability analysis of equilibria. A global sensitivity analysis is performed using Latin Hypercu
