Self-Reported Compliance With Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy in Young Women With Hormone Receptor-Positive Early Breast Cancer: A Real-World Study from a Tertiary Cancer Center in India.

BACKGROUND: Compliance with adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET) is crucial in hormone receptor-positive (HR+) early breast cancer (EBC), yet data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) remain scarce. This study evaluates compliance rates, identifies barriers to adherence, and assesses the impact on event-free survival (EFS). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 704 women aged 18 to 40 years with HR+ EBC treated at Tata Memorial Hospital, India, between 2015 and 2017. Compliance was assessed using a structured patient-reported questionnaire and was primarily define

"I Go Upstairs and Eat in Front of the Television:" the Cooking and Eating Behaviors of Mexican Older Women Living Alone.

The increasing tendency of older people living alone may pose a number of challenges including factors related to food insecurity, such as functional impairment, social isolation, and financial vulnerability. The purpose of this study was to explain the cooking and eating behaviors of Mexican older women living alone using a life course perspective. A qualitative research methodology was chosen and deductive thematic analysis was used to examine accounts given by 14 older women through one-on-one interviews. Findings showed that age-related transitions, role changes, and the social context in

Socioeconomic Disparities in Health Behaviors.

The inverse relationships between socioeconomic status (SES) and unhealthy behaviors such as tobacco use, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition have been well demonstrated empirically but encompass diverse underlying causal mechanisms. These mechanisms have special theoretical importance because disparities in health behaviors, unlike disparities in many other components of health, involve something more than the ability to use income to purchase good health. Based on a review of broad literatures in sociology, economics, and public health, we classify explanations of higher smoking, lower e

Adolescents and sexually transmitted diseases.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are a serious health problem for adolescents, occurring in an estimated one-quarter of sexually active teen-agers. Many of the health problems--including STDs--result from specific risk-taking behaviors. Determinants of STD risks among adolescents include behavioral, psychological, social, biological, institutional factors. Education is an important component in STD control in adolescents. The goal of education is to increase adolescent self-efficiency in practicing STD prevention and risk-reduction. A comprehensive approach including quality, theory-based

Suubi+Adherence study protocol: A family economic empowerment intervention addressing HIV treatment adherence for perinatally infected adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Globally, 1.8 million children<15 years are living with HIV. Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), as a region, is heavily burdened by HIV, with 90% of new infections among children happening there. Within SSA, Uganda has an HIV prevalence of 7.2% among 15-49-year-olds, with high prevalence in Masaka region (12%). Uganda also reports unprecedented numbers of perinatally HIV-infected children, with close to 150,000 children (ages 0-14) living with HIV (CLHA). However adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) among children and youth is poor, and has been attributed to economic insecurity, inclu

Further adaptation of cross-commodity purchase task methodology: The impact of preference rank on demand.

A behavioral economic framework of alcohol use posits that alcohol use is a temporally extended pattern of behavior and occurs in contexts in which other response options are available. Hypothetical purchase tasks are based in behavioral economic theory and allow for researchers to pinpoint demand for commodities. An extension of purchase task methodology, cross-commodity tasks examine demand for a substance when two or more commodities are concurrently available. Recent research has extended these tasks to examine the impact of competing activities on alcohol demand. The present study extends

Why does scabies persist despite effective treatment? Coordination failure, Nash equilibrium, and replicator dynamics.

INTRODUCTION: Scabies remains a persistent global public health problem despite the availability of effective treatments, including topical permethrin, benzyl benzoate, crotamiton, and systemic ivermectin. This paper develops a formal economic-epidemiological framework using game theory to explain persistence through coordination failure and Nash equilibrium. METHODS: Household treatment decisions are modeled as a coordination game under imperfect information, treatment costs, and reinfection externalities. The analysis is further extended using an evolutionary replicator dynamics framework t

Self-Care, Resilience, and Uncertainty in Patients After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery: A Cross-Sectional Descriptive Correlational Study.

BACKGROUND: Self-care is important after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent the recurrence of coronary artery disease (CAD). Resilience and uncertainty generally affect self-care among patients with chronic illnesses. Considering the chronicity of CAD, further evidence is necessary to determine the association between self-care, resilience, and uncertainty in patients after CABG surgery. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to determine the self-care-related factors in patients who underwent CABG surgery by investigating the association betwe

Risk and Protective Factors Associated With Intimate Partner Violence in a Nationally Representative Sample of Korean Men.

OBJECTIVES: In recent years, multiple studies have investigated the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) in Korea. However, most of those studies have focused on IPV against women, while overlooking the problem of men IPV victimization. Considering this, the current study identified risk and protective factors for IPV and examined their influence on IPV victimization among Korean men. METHODS: We used a nationally representative sample of 1668 Korean men from the 2013 Korea National Survey on Domestic Violence. The associations between potential IPV risk factors and different types of IPV

Effect of physical mobility, decision making and economic empowerment on gender-based violence among married youth in India-SAWERA project.

BACKGROUND: Preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV) is both a human rights imperative and a multifaceted economic issue. GBV can also act as a barrier to economic empowerment. The aim of the study was to examine the association between women's empowerment (physical mobility, decision making and economic resources) and GBV among married youth in India. METHODS: Community based cross-sectional study was conducted among married youth in the age group of 15-24 years, in two selected districts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, India. The data was collected from 578 youth. Pre-valida

A new mixed agent-based network and compartmental simulation framework for joint modeling of related infectious diseases- application to sexually transmitted infections.

BACKGROUND: A model that jointly simulates infectious diseases with common modes of transmission can serve as a decision-analytic tool to identify optimal intervention combinations for overall disease prevention. In the United States, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a huge economic burden, with a large fraction of the burden attributed to HIV. Data also show interactions between HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as higher risk of acquisition and progression of co-infections among persons with HIV compared to persons without. However, given the wide range in

Virtual reality and temporal Myopia: Insights from a multitask experiment in green bond investments.

This study employs a multitask research approach to investigate how a Virtual Reality experience affects behavioral constructs that might shape temporal myopia in investment preferences, as revealed through a Discrete Choice Experiment focused on green bonds. We model key behavioral constructs inspired by the Theory of Planned Behavior to capture individuals' attitudes toward climate change. These pro-environmental behavioral constructs are then incorporated as latent variables within a Hybrid Choice Model to examine their implicit influence on maturity preferences in green bond investments, a

Trusting Wisely? Developmental Changes in How Children Learn and Adapt to Partner Trustworthiness.

Trusting selectively is a crucial ability in successfully navigating social environments: trusting a trustworthy partner maximizes mutual benefits; withholding trust from an untrustworthy partner minimizes chances of being exploited. Here, we ask how children's trust expectations and experienced trustworthiness inform their own trust decisions. Using a child-friendly repeated Trust Game, we employ a computational modeling approach to examine how children learn about the trustworthiness of others through experience and adjust their own trust behaviors. We tested N = 96 children ages 6-11 years

Narcissistic and dependent behaviors in the Battle of the Sexes game.

We used the 2-person, 2-choice Battle of the Sexes game to model dominant and submissive behaviors in individuals with narcissistic and dependent traits in an online sample. In the Battle of the Sexes, participants share an interest in coordinating an outcome (either A or B). However, one player prefers they coordinate on Outcome A, whereas the other prefers they both coordinate on Outcome B. When provoked by a preemptive commitment (Experiment 1), we found that narcissistic traits were positively associated with dominant behavior, whereas dependent traits were positively associated with submi

Behavioral Activation System and Early Life Parental Abuse Are Associated with Antisocial Behaviors in Mexican Adolescents.

Antisocial behavior (AB) is a complex phenomenon, predicted by a wide range of biological, environmental, and personality factors. These have high human and economic costs especially in adolescents, highlighting the importance of investigating factors that may be associated with these behaviors. Among the most potent predictors of AB are early life experiences and personality. To this end, the present study sought to investigate the association between early life parental abuse and behavioral activation system (BAS) personality traits assessed within the reinforcement sensitivity theory (RST)

Integrated Depression Care and Livelihood Interventions for Low-Income Women in Vietnam: Protocol for a Cluster Nonrandomized Controlled Trial (LIFE-DM).

BACKGROUND: In Vietnam, economically disadvantaged women face compounded risks due to gender inequality, financial instability, and limited access to mental health care. Community health stations (CHSs), the frontline entry point into the health system and the most accessible primary care facilities, typically lack trained mental health providers, further exacerbating an already existing treatment gap. While evidence-based treatments for depression exist, most interventions address either mental health or economic hardship separately, limiting their effectiveness in resource-constrained settin

Adolescent executive function as a resilience factor in the family stress model among Mexican-origin families.

Mexican-origin families often face economic hardship due to systemic oppression, increasing the likelihood of adolescent marijuana use. While the family stress model provides insight into the mechanism of the association between family economic hardship and adolescent marijuana use, resilience factors are relatively unknown. The present study uses a three-wave longitudinal data set of Mexican immigrant families in the United States (Wave 1-adolescents: Mage = 12.29, SD = 0.93; mothers: Mage = 38.57, SD = 5.71) to investigate the mechanism underlying the association between family income and ad

Child discipline in low- and middle-income countries: Socioeconomic disparities at the household- and country-level.

BACKGROUND: In the past month, an estimated eight of ten children worldwide have experienced violent discipline. Understanding the economic and social contexts in which parents are more likely to use particular disciplinary practices is necessary to reduce violence against children. Critical examination of disciplinary practices and beliefs in cross-country analysis of low- and middle-income countries (LMICS) has been limited. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the association of country-level stressors and household-level economic stressors with disciplinary behaviors and beliefs. PARTICIPANTS AND SETT
