Early maternal depressive symptoms and child developmental outcomes at six years old: a prospective birth cohort study in a low-risk population.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to identify distinct trajectories of maternal depressive symptoms from late pregnancy to 36 months postpartum and to assess their associations with children's emotional, behavioral, and cognitive outcomes. METHODS: We analyzed data from 240 mother-child dyads in Shanghai from a cohort screened at enrollment to exclude major pre-existing mental disorders and pregnancy complications. Maternal depressive symptoms were assessed in late pregnancy using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, at 42 days postpartum using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression

Comparison of neuropsychological functioning and emotional processing in major depression and social anxiety disorder subjects, and matched healthy controls.

OBJECTIVES: Few studies of neuropsychological function in major depression have examined emotional processing or the impact of gender. Patients have also been compared with highly selected control participants and rarely with other patient groups. The objective of this study was to compare neuropsychological function in a major depressive episode (MDE) with a group of patients with an anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (SAD), and healthy controls, to include measures of emotional processing and to analyse the effects of gender on neuropsychological function and emotional processing in t

Men and women choose moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and sedentary behaviors with a "hot" mind rather than a "cold" one.

BACKGROUND: The primary aim of our study is to explore how moderate-intensity physical activity (MPA), vigorous-intensity physical activity (VPA), moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and sedentary behavior (SB) in men and women (ages 18-74; 4545 females and 1824 males) are associated with age, education, psychological factors (cognitive reflection/"cold" mind, emotional intelligence (E), impulsivity, perceived stress), health behaviors (overeating, breakfast consumption, smoking, alcohol use), body mass index (BMI), and sleep duration. METHODS: The information was collected by mean…

The effect of reading ability on Rorschach performance.

The present study examined the Rorschach of 25 second grade children possessing average intelligence or better. The children were classified into two groups: poor readers and excellent readers. The results were compared to Ledwith's (1958) normative population and to each other. A number of Rorschach scores differed significantly from Ledwith's norms and seven Rorschach scores differed from each other. The poor readers had difficulties forming clear perceptual gestalts and showed little interest or ability in the integration or organization of separate facts. They also have a deficit in their

Exploring the fMRI based neural correlates of the dot probe task and its modulation by sex and body odor.

The dot probe task implicitly cues attention via emotional information, an effect which is especially pronounced for threat-related cues. However, several questions remain unexplored. The first one is whether chemosignals like the androgen-derivative androstadienone can influence such attentional biases. Second, few studies have addressed sex differences regarding attentional biases. Finally, the neural correlates of these potential behavioral effects based on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are not known. In two experiments we aimed to answer these questions. Cultivating Clarity: Integrating Zen-Informed Principles Into Contemporary Radiology Practice.

Modern radiology requires sustained attention, rapid decision-making, and emotional resilience amid increasing imaging volumes, diagnostic complexity, and fragmented workflows. Task switching and high throughput can contribute to cognitive overload, rigidity in reasoning, and clinician burnout. While technological innovations such as artificial intelligence and workflow optimization address external factors, comparatively little attention has focused on radiologists' internal cognitive state. Zen-informed principles-including mindful attention, beginner's mind, non-attachment to outcome, inten

Cognitive and behavioural development in children presenting with complex febrile seizures: at onset and school age.

OBJECTIVE: Our goal was to assess development, cognition and behaviour following an initial complex febrile seizure (FS), at onset and school age, in the context of known risk factors for cognitive development. METHODS: Two cohorts were recruited. Thirty-five infants with an initial complex FS were assessed within the first year post-seizure and compared to 30 controls (simple FS) based on measures of cognitive, motor and language development, behaviour and emotions. Additionally, 19 school-age children with previous complex FS (11 multiple, eight prolonged) were assessed and compared to 19 c

Key factors selection on adolescents with non-suicidal self-injury: A support vector machine based approach.

Comparing a family structure to a company, one can often think of parents as leaders and adolescents as employees. Stressful family environments and anxiety levels, depression levels, personality disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, and childhood trauma may all contribute to non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors. We presented a support vector machine (SVM) based method for discovering the key factors among mazy candidates that affected NSSI in adolescents. Using SVM as the base learner, and the binary dragonfly algorithm was used to find the feature combination that minimized the

Emotion regulation is associated with PTSD and depression among female adolescent survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual abuse experienced in childhood and adolescence is associated with severity of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depressive symptoms, and emotion regulation difficulties. The current study examined the relationships among these factors in a sample of adolescents with sexual abuse-related PTSD. It was hypothesized that (a) self-perceived emotion regulation difficulties would predict severity of PTSD and depressive symptoms, and that (b) depressive symptoms would mediate the relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and PTSD. METHOD: Ninety treatment-seeking fema

Regulation of emotion in ADHD: can children with ADHD override the natural tendency to approach positive and avoid negative pictures?

Studies have demonstrated inefficient use of antecedent-focused emotion regulation strategies in children with ADHD attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In the current study we tested for the first time if ADHD is also associated with difficulties in response-focused strategies by measuring the ability to override action tendencies induced by emotional information. Performance data on a computer-based approach-avoidance paradigm of 28 children with ADHD and 38 typically developing children between 8 and 15 years of age were analyzed, by comparing a congruent condition in which they
