Isolation, structure determination, and antiaging effects of 2,3-pentanediol from endophytic fungus of Curcuma amada and docking studies.

An endophytic fungus was isolated from the rhizomes of Curcuma amada (Zingiberaceae), which was identified as Fusarium oxysporum on the basis of its morphological and molecular characters. Chromatographic separation and spectroscopic analysis of the fungal metabolite (chloroform extract) led to the identification of one pure compound having molecular formula C5H12O2, i.e., 2,3-pentanediol (1). Activity analysis of compound 1 demonstrated improved antiaging (antioxidant, thermotolerance) properties against Caenorhabditis elegans, in comparison to a similar, commercially available molecule i.e.,

[Possibilities of present-day research methods in the diagnosis of precancerous changes in the mucous membrane and "minor" endophytic gastric cancer].

Complex x-ray, endoscopic and morphologic examinations of the stomach carried out in 1250 patients revealed 152 cases with precancer mucosal changes (epithelial dysplasia, intestinal metaplasia). X-ray and endoscopic signs are described which permit suspect precancer changes in the gastric mucosa and "minor" endophytic cancer. Dysplasia progress was observed in 15.5% of cases, no progress in 21.1%. The diagnosis of such conditions should be complex. High-risk groups should be formed with due consideration for both the morphologic criterion and the x-ray and endoscopic signs of gastric wall inv

Plant functional group and soil character: two effective factors to define endophytic fungal diversity in a gypsum-rich environment.

Gypsum soils impose severe physiological and ecological constraints on plants, yet the diversity and ecological drivers of their associated fungal endophytes remain poorly understood. We examined the taxonomy, diversity, and community composition of endophytic fungi associated with ten plant species representing three functional groups-wide gypsophiles, narrow gypsophiles, and gypsovags-in a gypsum-rich desert ecosystem in central Iran. From 11,520 plant fragments collected over two years, 4482 fungal isolates were obtained and assigned to 44 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) belonging to 8 c…

Structural Characterization and Biological Evaluation of a Novel GlcNAc-Bearing Exopolysaccharide from the Mangrove Endophytic Fungus Penicillium janthinellum N29.

A novel, uniform acid heteropolysaccharide with a molecular weight of 13.14 kDa was isolated from the fermented broth of the mangrove endophytic fungus Penicillium janthinellum N29, designated as PJ3-1. A structural analysis showed that PJ3-1 is a straight-chain heteropolysaccharide containing GlcN, GlcNAc, Glc and GlcA in the ratio of 12.23:1.79:10.93:1.00. PJ3-1 markedly inhibits α-glucosidase activity and relieves insulin resistance in HepG2 cells. It alleviates lipid peroxidation and upregulates the activities of endogenous antioxidant enzymes. In addition, it also significantly scavenges

Investigation of Pine Wilt Disease in Chongqing: From Field Occurrence and Genetic Diversity to Endophytic Microbial Composition and Functional Analysis.

Pine wilt disease (PWD), caused by Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is a destructive forest disease leading to rapid mortality. Although Chongqing is a major epidemic region in China, the population genetic structure of B. xylophilus and the ecological interactions among nematode occurrence, blue stain formation, and microbial community dynamics remain insufficiently clear. This study systematically surveyed nematode incidence and performed morphological and molecular identification, revealing strong correlations between nematode presence, blue stain, and insect infestation (p < 0.0001). Within Mon
