Enterobius vermicularis Infection among Preschool Children: A 12-Year (2008-2019) Survey in Large Cities and Provinces of the Republic of Korea.

A 12-year nationwide survey (2008-2019) was performed to investigate the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis infection among preschool chi … been maintained for the recent 12 years among preschool children in Korea. Continuous monitoring of enterobiasis in the child age group is necessary in Korea.

Mid-7th century BC human parasite remains from Jerusalem.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the species of intestinal parasites present in 7th century BC high-status residents of Jerusalem and to expose the history of regional health and sanitary conditions. MATERIALS: Fifteen sediment samples were collected from the cesspit below a stone toilet seat found at the site of Armon Hanatziv, southern Jerusalem. The toilet installation was located in a garden adjacent to a monumental structure with extraordinary architectural elements. METHODS: A light microscope was used to identify and measure the eggs. RESULTS: The presence of four intestinal parasite egg taxa

Perforation of the Small Intestine with Acute Peritonitis Caused by Enterobius Vermicularis.

Perianal and perineal pruritus is often associated with Enterobius vermicularis in children. Although this roundworm is common in pediatric practice, most doctors are unaware that it can cause appendicular colic with/or appendicitis, severe urogenital complications, bowel perforation, and peritonitis. We report a case of a young male who presented with signs and symptoms of acute peritonitis. Dur-ing the operation, perforation of the jejunum with a purulent exudate under the transverse colon, a left lateral canal, a Douglas cavity were found as well as single enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes. Paleoparasitological evidence of pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis) infection in a female adolescent residing in ancient Tehran (Iran) 7000 years ago.

BACKGROUND: The Molavi street archeological site south of Tehran accidentally provided a unique opportunity for paleoparasitological studies in Iran. A female skeleton was unearthed and evaluated to be 7000 years old. Soil samples were collected around the pelvic and sacrum bones. FINDINGS: Careful microscopic investigation of rehydrated soil samples revealed the presence of one Enterobius vermicularis egg attached to the skeleton sacral region. CONCLUSION: The present finding likely represents the oldest evidence of a human pinworm infection in Asia.

Enterobius granuloma: an unusual cause of omental mass in an 11-year-old girl.

Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) is the only nematode that infects humans. It is one of the most common intestinal parasites. Pinworm commonly infests the terminal ileum and colon, and does not cause severe morbidity unless ectopic infection occurs. However, granulomatous lesions caused by ectopic Enterobius vermicularis infection may lead to unusual clinical symptoms and may be misinterpreted as malignant lesions. Herein, the authors present an 11-year-old girl with pinworm infection who presented with abdominal pain and an omental mass, with special emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment.

'Wormy'form appendix.

Appendicitis and helminth infections are both common conditions in children. However, helminths (pinworms) infestation causing appendiceal luminal obstruction and presenting as appendicitis is uncommon.

Enterobius vermicularis in a 14-year-old girl's eye.

We report an unusual case of extraintestinal infection with adult Enterobius vermicularis worms in the nares and ocular orbit of a 14-year-old girl in Illinois. Only one other similar case has been reported in the English-language literature.

Enterobius vermicularis infection of the fallopian tube in an infertile female.

Enterobius vermicularis (EV) is the most common nematode to infect humans. It inhabits the intestinal lumen, but rare, ectopic infections have been documented. The female genital tract is the most common ectopic site. We present a unique case of an EV infection of the fallopian tube resulting in inflammation, tubal obstruction, and infertility. A 30-year-old woman presented with infertility. Investigations included a laparoscopy with hydrotubation using methylene blue dye. This showed a left fallopian tube obstruction and extensive pelvic adhesions. A left salpingectomy was performed. Microsco

Chimpanzee pinworm, Enterobius anthropopitheci (Nematoda: Oxyuridae), maintained for more than twenty years in captive chimpanzees in Japan.

The chimpanzee pinworm, Enterobius anthropopitheci (Gedoelst, 1916), was found in chimpanzees, Pan troglodytes, reared in Kumamoto Primate Research Park, Sanwa Kagaku Kenkyusho Co., Ltd., Kumamoto, Japan, in 2006. Because the chimpanzees in this institution originated from chimpanzees imported from Africa before 1984, it is considered that E. anthropopitheci infection has persisted for more than 20 yr in the chimpanzees. Analysis of pinworm specimens preserved in the institution revealed that transition of predominant pinworm species occurred, responding to the change of anthelmintics used for

[Multilocular hepatic masses due to Enterobius vermicularis].

Infestation with Enterobius vermicularis involving extraintestinal manifestation is rare. In a 50-year-old man with lower abdominal pain, computed tomography led to a suspected diagnosis of sigmoid carcinoma with liver metastasis. After ruling out colon cancer by endoscopy, laparoscopic resection of one suspected tumor nodule in the liver was performed. Histopathological examination revealed parasitic granulomas containing pinworms. Hematogenous migration was postulated in the setting of phlebitis with thrombosis of the inferior mesenteric vein.

Eosinophilia and potential antibody cross-reactivity between parasites in a child with pinworm and immune dysregulation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Intestinal parasitic infections are common in humans, especially among young children. These conditions are often asymptomatic a … he child later developed also type 1 diabetes. CONCLUSIONS: We suggest the need to investigate for enterobiasis in children with hypereosinophilia and to consider autoimmunity as a potential confounding factor when interpreting serology for helminths.
