DcH3.3 and DcNAC1 Regulate the Expression of UGT73A93 Involved in the Changes in Flower Colour and Fungal Resistance in Carnation.

Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) contains abundant flavonoid glycosides (FGs), which are important natural functional and colour components. However, there are few reports on the modification of UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) in relation to flavonoids in carnation. In this study, we cloned and characterised a flavonoid 3'-O-glucosyltransferase (UGT73A93) in carnation in vitro. Overexpression of UGT73A93 in carnation and tobacco increased flavonoid glycoside accumulation, particularly kaempferol glycosides, while decreasing anthocyanin content and lightening flower colour. UGT73A93 also enhan

Remodeling of the tuberization-controlling FLOWERING LOCUS T genes from non-tuberizing ancestor to potato.

Potato (Solanum section Petota) originated from a natural hybridization between tomato and Etuberosum ancestors, through which the trait of tuber formation evolved. Genetically, tuberization in potato is controlled by FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) homologs. However, from non-tuberous ancestors to potato, what remodeling of these tuber formation determinants emerged remains unclear. Using homology-based discovery, expression profiling, CRISPR knockouts, and genetic complementation, we here show that tuberization-controlling FT-like genes underwent Petota-specific expansion, restructuring, and divergen

Multiplexed Sepsis Immunosorbent Assay Based on Flower-like CoFe2O4/MoS2 with Dual Substrate Affinity.

Sepsis diagnosis and prognosis are hindered by the limitations of traditional single-parameter assays, which are costly, slow, and impractical for resource-limited settings. To overcome this, we developed a novel combined nanozyme-linked immunosorbent assay (NLISA) kit for the multiplexed detection of three critical sepsis biomarkers: C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, and D-dimer. Our approach leverages a unique flower-like CoFe2O4/MoS2 nanosheet with dual substrate affinity, which serves as a highly stable and efficient nanozyme label. This sandwich-type immunocomplex enabled us to achieve

Genome-wide identification of lipid transfer proteins in Sorghum bicolor and discovery of flower-specific promoters.

Sorghum bicolor is a drought- and heat-tolerant cereal widely cultivated in arid regions. However, like other important grasses, it is susceptible to ergot disease caused by Claviceps species, which infect ovary tissues and reduce grain yield. To combat this disease, targeted biotechnological strategies are needed. In this study, we conducted a genome-wide identification and classification of lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) in S. bicolor, uncovering 68 putative genes grouped into five families. In silico analyses of gene expression and promoter sequences identified two LTP genes, SbLTP1.4 and S

An investigation into the key volatile compounds that dominate the characteristic aroma and flavor of pomelo flower-green tea.

Pomelo flowers (PFs) enhance the flavor diversity of green tea (GT) and reduce resource wastage, but the aroma-enhancing mechanism was unclear. In this study, electronic-nose and electronic-tongue analyses demonstrated that pomelo flower-green tea (PT) had a richer aroma and taste than GT. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis revealed an increased total volatile content and enhanced floral notes in PT. Specifically, 23 compounds were upregulated and 10 were downregulated in PT. Major odorants (variable importance in projection >1) included linalool, nerolidol, methyl anthranilate, and…

Molecular mechanisms of nitric oxide regulating high photosynthetic performance of wheat plants in waterlogging at flowering.

Nitric oxide (NO) positively contributes to maintaining a high photosynthetic rate in waterlogged-wheat plants by maintaining high stomatal conductance (gs), mesophyll conductance (gm), and electron transport rates in PSII (J). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the synergistic regulation of photosynthetic characteristics during wheat waterlogging remain unclear. Pot experiments were conducted with two cultivars: Yangmai15 (YM15: high waterlogging-tolerance capacity) and Yangmai24 (YM24: conventional waterlogging-tolerance capacity). The 2 cm waterlogging depth treatment (WL), exogen

SpMS1, a male sterility factor, interacts with SpAP1 to regulate unisexual flower development in dioecious spinach.

The emergence of unisexual flower is an important event during plant evolution. The molecular mechanism underlying the formation of unisexual flowers remains unclear in dioecious spinach. In this study, we identified the spinach MALE STERILITY1 gene, SpMS1, which serves as a masculine factor to regulate male fertility and sex reversion. Silencing SpMS1 led to stamen sterility in male flowers and the development of masculine traits in female flowers. Overexpression of SpMS1 in wild-type Arabidopsis resulted in sterile stamens and irregular pollen exine. Notably, ectopic expression of SpMS1 in A…

Nano-flower spherical NiFe LDH adsorbent for efficient removal of H2S in blast furnace gas.

Removal of sulfur species from blast furnace gas is urgently needed due to the strict emission limits imposed on iron-steel industrial flue gas. Improving the sulfur capacity of H2S is a crucial challenge to reduce the operation cost. NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) adsorbents were synthesized using the hydrothermal method to strengthen the adsorption of H2S, achieving a high sulfur capacity of 133.6 mg/g at 50 °C. Characterization studies have revealed that the reaction pathway of H2S on the NiFe LDH surface involves adsorption, dissociation and oxidation. It has been clarified that the h

Nymphaea "Eldorado" flower extract targets serpine 1 to attenuate inflammatory and antioxidant crosstalk in zebrafish.

Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are pivotal drivers of pathological conditions, necessitating safer plant-derived therapeutic alternatives. This study elucidates the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mechanisms of Nymphaea "Eldorado" flower water extract (NEWE) in a zebrafish (Danio rerio) model of copper sulfate (CuSO4)-induced inflammation. NEWE (25-100 μg/mL) attenuates CuSO4-triggered neutrophil migration and oxidative stress by downregulating proinflammatory genes (il1b, ptgs2a/b) and reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Transcriptomic profiling identified 339 diff

Spraying calcium chloride helps to enhance the resistance of kidney bean plants to western flower thrips.

BACKGROUND: The western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), is a significant pest in horticulture and ornamental agriculture. While exogenous calcium (Ca) has been shown to confer plant immune responses against thrips, the detailed mechanisms of this interaction remain to be elucidated for improved thrips management strategies. This study aimed to assess the impact of exogenous Ca on WFT feeding behavior and to explore its role in enhancing the defense mechanisms of kidney bean plants against WFT attacks. We compared WFT feeding preferences and efficiency
